Deadpool: World's Greatest Vol. 6

The pages do not Rio when you turn them, a true revolution. Also, what was put on the pages was good.

Its deapool. The return of madcap! Good story, good art! Its another 5 star comic! I hope duggan continues writing the merc with a mouth. Cool art too.

Somewhat gruesome tale of Deadpool and a mysterious adversary, in a conflict born of their mutual insanity. But still funny and smart.

So after cutting ties with the Mercs for Money (meaning Wade will FINALLY be the sole focus of his solo series) we get a one shot of Deadpool's adventure with a young lady who was about to jump off his building. It's a character development issue with a bunch of dialogue and not much action. If you are into that type of thing you'll like this issue and if not then you won't. I actually went to pick up this issue from the comic shop while waiting out the whole "Civil War II" stuff. Good art and Deadpool is his normal "more than meets the eye" self. I would say it was a refreshing read.Let me go ahead and say that, personally, Madcap just doesn't do it for me as a Deadpool villain and 60% of the book involves the Madcap subplot.If you are interested in seeing where that goes then you will like the majority of this book. If not then majority of the book will be "meh" I mean I see what they are going for. A psychological villain threatening Deadpool's "family." Luckily a certain character makes an appearance to, hopefully, resolve the issues I have with this current "World's Greatest" because nothing about Deadpool is screaming "great" about Wade in this run to be honest.Prime example in the final issue for this collected series we get the conclusion to Deadpool 2099. I mean who DOESN'T want to see Wade as a shriveled up raisin while his two daughters (both using the name Deadpool) fight each other in the future? Am I right? Exactly. This highlights part of the problem of this "World's Greatest Deadpool" series since it's false adertising. Nothing is great about Wade in this series besides him being a great disappoint and Deadpool 2099 PERFECTLY represents that. Seriously compare this wimpy Deadpool in 2099 to the Deadpool in Messiah Complex that, and I quote from MArvel database wiki: "In an alternate distant future, Deadpool was still alive after having been trapped in a basement below a collapsed skyscraper for 800 years" During this timeline called "Age of Stryfe" Wade had been alone in a basement for 800 years with a slowed healing factor but was still a threat being able to hold his own in a fight proving that Deadpool is better at what Wolverine does...Now in Deadpool 2099 (1/8 of that time) Wade is a shrived up, complete and total wimp. Yeah some may argue he was tortured by his daughter during that time however that is not nearly as being "trapped in a basement for 800 years." There are comments that Wade needs to "get fit again" or "tune the body" which shows how much Wade has fallen.*Spoilers* Let's talk about why the whole "Deadpool 2099" doesn't work. If you know that Ellie lives to see 2099 then ALL tension from the Madcap subplot is ruined. Heck any tension from anyone who targets Ellie is now off the table because we KNOW she survives. Not to mention now that we know of her mutant ability of "pretty much being immortal". This would have been better used is Madcap (or anyone) was successful in killing Ellie causing Deadpool to lose it and seek revenge (which is how he could have ditched the whole "hero" thing) unaware that his daughter was a mutant and survived. "World's Greatest" wastes so much time on the Mercs for Money and not exploring how Deadpool comes to terms that he is now a father or how he is a husband which was set up in Duggan's previous Deadpool run. We are six collected editions in (aka 25 issues) into this "World's Greatest" run and I cannot tell you ANYTHING that Wade has done during this run that fits the "World's Greatest" title. If anything Marvel has made Deadpool weaker. I am aware that Deadpool is not the person to get "happy endings" because he is a tragic character but it's had to take his fall seriously when the important supporting characters are not developed enough for us to continue caring about them. Shiklah, Ellie, The Preston Family, etc have received far less panel time than the throwaway Mercs for Money and if you didn't read Duggan's previous work you have NO reason to care about them in this renumbered "World's Greatest" run. Which is a shame because Duggan has written one of my favorite Deadpool stories (the good, The bad and the Ugly) so when I see whats present in Vol. 6 Patience:Zero all I see is the wasted potential due to Deadpool's newfound popularity because of the movie...and that is a shame.
