A General History of the Pirates

An excellent read for anyone interested in Piracy and its History. The author was obviously very well educated for his time. The inclusion of letters and proclomations ordered by the King and Commanders Of Differing vessels was a beautiful touch. The old English is a pleasure to read. Getting a look at how people communicated is nice. Bear in mind this book was originally released within a few years of the first Novel in Britain. Robinson Crusoe. It may have been the basis for that story.

Bought this for my husband. Only down is that it is in olde English , so a little tough to read and understand. But he still likes it.

Needs a decent proofreader.I'm only on pages two and three of the preface here and already I've spotted three occasions where the word 'he' has been used instead of 'be'.Also in the photo I have provided, the word 'fame' is used instead of 'same'. Here, the 'long S', contemporary with the printing styles at the time of original publication, has been comically mistaken for an 'F'. Seriously!?There are numerous other areas which for a published work (which I have played for) is unacceptable.That aside however, the content is good. Such a shame that the poor attention to detail has let it down for me. Makes the book feel very amateur and unprofessional.If the publisher needs a decent proofreader then I'm available for a fee:)

Fantastic piece of history, great read.3* review because of the printing, looks like someone printed the book with there eyes closed.

Nice book though it is written in old English & sometimes you need to refer to the index of terminology at the back.Researching the history of the book there is a theory it was actually written by Daniel Defoe

This is a book for reading and for researching. It is well written and has a great deal of depth. Truly enjoyable read.

It looks like it was translated from another language, most parts don’t even make sense grammarly

Excellent book, a fun and interesting read! Highly recommend, one of the best history books on the Golden Age of Piracy.
