FANTASTIC - Pic Explained Below
AMAZING! I will explain the picture below. To start, I want to say we LOVE this! We have two 100+lb dogs and a lifted jeep wrangler plus my husband is a disabled veteran so he cannot lift our dogs into the Jeep regularly. It was too much for me to do on my own so we decided to try a variety of ramps and steps to help our dogs get into our vehicle. This is the 5th one we have tried and it is PERFECT. It was so easy to teach the dogs to use and is very easy for us. Now, if you are questioning the quality, please see the picture I have attached. We were stopped at a red light and someone rear ended us going around 35-40mph. The bottom bracket of the step bent back but that was it! No damage to our vehicle, our hitch, and no damage to the other pieces of the steps. It is constructed of high quality metal and sustained limited damage considering the hit it took! We are actually still using it with just one step for now while we wait for the insurance company to provide the funds for a new one! I would recommend this to anyone.

Fantastic folding stairs for dog to enter back of vehicle.
I have an older German Shepherd that cannot jump any more. These steps make it easy for her to safely access the back of my Highlander with no problem. They fold up easily and stay up until you release them. They are sturdy and just the right height. They attach to a trailer hitch, which is inexpensive to install if you don’t already have one.

Senior Dog loves it!
Good product! Only issue is that when I back up in my Explorer the back up alarm goes off.

Excellent Product & Customer Service
A good friend recommended the Petsafe Happy Ride Dog Hitch Step because my 11 yo German shepherd mix has been working with a canine physical therapist for significant weakness in her back legs. Although PT is helping, getting my girl in and out of my SUV has been difficult for both of us. I was excited when the hitch step arrived at my door 2 days of placing the order, but when I opened the package the bottom step did not have any slip-proof material on it, thus making it too unsafe for us to use. I called Petsafe customer service immediately and they said they would replace the step after I sent them an email w/my Amazon invoice, which I did the same day. Today (two days after speaking to customer service) I received the replacement package, and much to my surprise, I received a brand new dog hitch step with all of the parts and pieces! This product is well made, easy to assemble, very sturdy in the hitch, and worked very well to get my girl to and from her PT appointment this evening! I would highly recommend this product! I am also very grateful for the excellent support and customer service provided by Petsafe!

Steps wobble too much & NOT for an FJ Cruiser & too loose
It is durable and easy to assemble. However for an FJ Cruiser it really needs a 3rd step. The distance from getting in the FJ from the top step is way too far, my lab would not attempt it. He had to step on the FJs bumper which is too slippery. Even w the steps at the ToP position and then the main post is way to high (in the way). It also moves way too much, the steps themselves rock side to side, my dog did NOT like that. Going up and down, dog dis-approved. And this is from a 9month old puppy, not an older dog. We tried treats and the steps having so much movement, amd gave him plenty of time/encouragement, nope. The wobbly steps and the distance at the top, all caused this to be a pricey fail. I had to buy a new towing hitch to make this ALL work, only to have it fail for my dog :(. Save your money and buy a set of those ugly plastic stair cases. They are solid.

The best choice for a big SUV and a big dog
Usability is amazing, and the folding aspect allows you to leave the steps on the vehicle all the time if you want (but they come off very easily). I used this with 2 different German Shepherds, and they had no problems entering/exiting. A HUGE plus when the hips start to go, there's no way I'm lifting them in/out. So these steps are fantastic. This unit has a large height span, so it really is suited best for a tall truck. We use it on an INFINITI QX80 which has a very tall gate. A shorter gate would have the unit hitting the pavement. It's our 3rd unit in about 5-6 years. It's plenty sturdy, but the only unfortunate thing is that up here in the Northeast, the salt-laden winter streets are tough on the steel parts and pins etc. (the moving parts). So I have replaced it a couple times due to rusting of the pins. It still worked, but with difficulty and it looked like heck. I wish they used a composite or a better steel coating.

Easy To Assemble & Work Well, But Sandpaper Surface Pulls Out Tufts Of Hair From Long-Haired Breeds
I only rated these with 3 starts because of the sandpaper surface of these steps. I appreciate the need for a non-skid surface, but my Sheltie loses little tufts of hair every time he climbs down from the SUV. There are better ways to provide a non-skid surface, but I couldn't find steps that were the correct height, folded up when not in use, *and* had a non-sandpaper surface. So these steps had 2 out of 3 of my requirements.I do like that these steps fold up when not in use. I bought these to replace a single-step plastic trailer-hitch step that really tore up a guy's rear bumper/fender when we had one of those no-fault parking lot backing-into-each-other accidents. The good news was that my car had no damage at all, just a small tear in the plastic step. These steps would probably also protect my rear bumper from damage, but don't stick out as far when folded up. (You have no choice but to fold them up when driving, as the lower step is SO low it would scrape on every little bump or when going in and out of parking lots.)They are VERY HEAVY (the shipping box has a big red "HEAVY" label on it), but easy to assemble. They aren't as stable as I'd like (there's quite a bit of wobble room), but they stay still enough so that my ultra-timid Sheltie will use them. I also like that there are two horizontal positions for each step (one moves the step closer to the vehicle's bumper, the other allows the step to be slid further away from the bumper). This helps with dogs who have different gaits and need more or less space between the steps. And it's a simple procedure to change step position: just pull out on the red knob, slide the step forward or backward, then release the knob and wiggle the step to make sure it's locked in place.
