DO not use a surge protector on AC outlets with this solar inverter. Uses modified sine wave not adaptable with all.
UPDATE: Sadly it failed just over a year and a quarter. And a second one failed about a month later. We have no idea what or why they failed but they failed the same way. Not clear yet if it's the batteries that failed or the software running the units. The symptoms were it began running as in charging constantly never turning off but for a second or two. Plugged in to AC it showed it was fully charged then seconds later showing it was at 20% charge and starting the charging cycle all over again. Then it would disply fully charged maybe 5 to 7 minutes later and then a few seconds later say it was only 20% and start the cycle all over again. Both units failed same way about 4-5 weeks apart. We finally took them apart this winter and as we expected the failure was with the digital system they used to program and run it. The batteries themselves were just fine.I only used these to charge a power banknow and again and a 12W LED spot light that is not super bright butbright enough to send a message THIS CAMPSITE IS TAKEN when folksdrive in after dark looking for a campsite and LINGER with their BRIGHT LIGHTSsmack on my tent. So I rigged up a 12W light that Amazon sells to a 40 footoutdoor extention cord and a very short 6 to 9 inch outdoor remote controlledon off AC extention plug. I put the long cord directly to the lamp and turned thelamo on with it's built in remote to the setting I would want to return to and itholds that setting when turned back on. (I wired the lamp to the table to shinedirectly at any vehicle that would come down the campsite drive.) Then put theremote control plug directly to this battery box and plugged the 40 foot cordinto it. SO when I'm in my sleeping bag I can just reach out to the remoteand plug in the remote cord & use the remote to on or on/off a couple of times to let thefolks sitting too long with their high beams on my tent LEAVE. Meantime Ialso started parking my vehicle at the entrance to the campsite to prevent drive ins.Usually it really did not bother me as long as I could look out window from tent to confirmthat someone is just looking for a sight after dark and usually they back up and leavepretty fast. A few folks seem to just sit there rude as ever with high beamssmack on my tent? One night was the final straw. My tent with windows onall four sides was damaged by wind two days earlier. So had to put up a sparetent that has a rain fly when on covers all viewing from inside the tent and allwindows are closed off. So sure enough someone drives in at 3 in the morning.Parks with high beams on my tent. Leaves...good...returns 4 more times overthe next 24 minutes. Twice getting out of their vehicle walking boldly right upto my tent with a HIGH BEAM FLASH LIGHT. All I could tell was it was a tallperson with heavy foot steps. So most likely a tall male. Most females do notmake that much noise walking or hold a flashlight that high. My entrance wasset about 30 inches to the bank over the river. So the noise of the river wouldwash away my trying to talk to them until I could get around the tent and awayfrom the river. And worse if I had stepped outside the tent to confront the intrusionI would instantly be blinded by their high beam flash light and nothing I had onhand would have helped to shine back at them. SO I stayed quite and inside. After that second walk up to my tent and the last drive in I got out of my tentwith car keys in hand and drove my car to the top of the entance making suremy little RAV4 blocked anything from entering again. I mostly camp solo andin my sixties and at 5'2" female I do not want anyone coming up on me like thatKNOWING I am alone and possible vulnerable. My only weopon is bear spraybecause this is bear country. I have never used it in my 50 years of campingbut seems to please the rangers who stop to chat and warn me about bearsnow and again. Twice when I have camped in same area different campgroundslocal sheriff cars have driven through searching for signs of someone theyare looking for. Once this went on early morning hours for over a week. Theyfound the guy two weeks later 200 miles away in a town. Anyway it is possiblethat a sheriff was doing this and I did see one going through the next morning ataround 7 a.m. But didn't hear anything about them looking or searching the campground and it doesn't make sense either. When they searched before they neverlingered or returned repeaatedly to one campsite and I think they would speak upif they wanted to check you out further or ask you questions. It was a dangerousthing to do walking up to the tent. And more so when the only entrance was justfeet from a steep bank so bottom line I will never know the why or what to thatevent. But I armed myself with the spot light and this battery and the remote setup so that I could turn the light on from anywhere in the camp even if I slipped outof the tent. I don't leave the remote plugged into the Battery because Remoteswill drain a battery pretty fast even when not in use. I kept the battery next to mycot and the remote control on top and so just had to plug it in and use the remoteto turn it on. I bought a different back up tent the next year but it still isn't as goodas my other tent. It has two doors with a window each but the fly again blocks thefull view..I can only see straight out and very little angle. So I have to set that tentup to make sure the window is viewable smack on the drive into the campsite.Might not be the way I want it oriented. So there is an advantage to this spot lighttoo. I can now turn it on if I hear any noise like animals rummaging about the camp.We had small group of juvenile male Elk attacking tents outside of Gardner MTa few years ago. We were in the tent you can't see out and since it was rainingwe had to keep the fly on. So I now take the spot light every time I go campingincase you never know...having to take down camp and pack up at night saybeing asked to leave due to wild fire season like last year. You can position it tosee the whole tent area pretty much. Move it to another spot if you need too.I am now searching for spot lights that can be re-charged or powered by Powerbanksor USB ports. A lot smaller to take along a Power bank anyway than lug thisheavy box around. I am shopping for a Goal Zero 1400 lithium however. Not sureI want one that big maybe the GZ 1000 would work as well. At least they havegood reputations of products that stand the time. Or so the reviews suggest. Alsolithiums use pure sine not modified sine which is safer for most products you woulduse it with.

Returned items should not say ''New''. Amazon issued FULL CREDIT, no need to return.
I suspect the previous owner dropped it. Bent bottom corner, LED display missing a segment, loose wire to AC sockets, won't charge via AC input OR solar, batteries dead below 6 volts (versus 12 volts) ......I bought this even after discerning that one/my item was $200 less than the others even listed as NEW..Years ago, I gambled and bought a used HS1800 for a deep discount since the seller 'Couldn't Test'.I replaced the 3 internal 20AH batteries (no easy task) so I figured the HS800 must have 2 batteries. So this item packaging looked ok but there was a bent bottom corner and a missing screw (sheared off ?).Instructions said to charge for 48 hours so during ''charging'', I noted NO AC output and odd battery readings. A minute after connecting 12 volts to SOLAR (9 to 26 max) I heard ''pffft'' and saw a puff of smoke came out the fan grill. So it was time to power off and check for damage but all I found was a loose hot wire to the AC outlets. When I soldered the black hot wire, the outlets came to life but the batteries weren't happy so I hooked up a known good one and still got NO RECHARGE. Eventually, I contacted a person or chat bot, explained my situation and was offered a $25 gift card ????? The rep then caved and I got a FULL REFUND AND NO NEED TO RETURN. I was going to take it to e-waste, but instead, I removed batteries, ran a 50 amp Anderson SB50 external battery connector. So now I have an 800 watt inverter that will function as a UPS but still won't recharge. I may buy another KISAE pure sine wave model since the instructions warn against pluggins in surge protectors or sensitive electronics to MODIFIED SINEWAVE (Modified SQUARE wave is more like it). The HS1800 with several large external batteries runs a mini fridge and a large chest freezer for about a day when the power goes out. The need to run medically necessary equipment like a wheelchair charger or alternating pressure / low air loss mattress and maybe CPAP lead me to look for low power, long run time solar rechargeable UPS...
