Some USB 2.0 enclosures have two heads on the computer end for this reason. **Q: Why only 4tb? it's a hard drive enclosure why would it be limited by capacit?** A: I'm going to over-simplify this but basically even though drives themselves have their own controllers, the USB-to-SATA chip has its own interface controller too for sorting data in and out of the drive; they aren't just a "dumb converter" like how a VGA to DVI display adapter works. The USB controller is limited in what it can "understand" and they just don't have enough processing power to track more data.
