Works when you know what you're doing.
The first day I got this, I was a little mad. You see, I synced the controller to the Wii U just fine, used it to play Black Ops 2 for about 5 minutes to see if it worked like the Wii U Pro Controller, which it does. Then, with the controller on, I swapped to the Wii menu. This is where the problem starts, if the controller is on when the console restarts to run the Wii OS, the controller gets confused and freezes up. There is a reset button you need to press, and then re-sync the controller to the Wii U. It does this every time you swap between the Wii and Wii U OS. Once I isolate the problem and establish a work around, I was able to use the controller for Wii games. Works great for Xenoblade Chronicles, made that game more manageable, as the camera defaults to the right thumbstick. I would give this controller 4.5 stars if not for that glaring fault in the controller design. Hopefully this problem gets fixed in future versions of the controller. The controller is about the same weight as the 360 controller. It's pretty comfortable for a 3rd party controller. A lot of thought went into it's design. Seems pretty rugged, but I wouldn't push my luck with it. The sticks don't seem to have the same sensitivity as the Wii U Pro controller, I noticed in BlackOps 2 it was a bit more sluggish when turning. The sticks themselves feel smooth, a little bit more tension behind them then the Wii U Pro Controller, it still doesn't have as much tension as the Xbox controllers. Overall, a good purchase for me, but I would not recommend this to someone is not tech savvy. The built in rechargeable battery is nice, used it for about 25 hours so far without charging it. I only use it for Wii games though, I like my Wii U Pro controller for Wii U games.

A "Good" Backup Controller
I bought this knowing what to expect. It does work for the the Wii & Wii U (select games) but it's not a great replacement for the Wiimote + Wii Classic Controller & Wii U Pro Controller. The build quality is good. The buttons & the thumb sticks seem to be on the firmer side, it does take toll on extended play. Syncs easy to the Wii & Wii U, though you can't sync it on 2 systems at the same time. It can be used as a Wiimote or a Classic Controller via switch on the back.I've been playing this with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate & I've been experiencing low to high response lag even on solo mode (offline), compared it with my old very responsive Hori Classic Controller which is the best controller I ever used in the Wii. This is the very reason why I dinged 1 star. This is a good backup controller since it eliminates bulk that a Wiimote + Wii Classic Controller have but for games that requires precision controls, this one can be fatal. Great if you go to another's place for Wii/Wii U party games.

Had the potential to be THE best traditional controller for the Wii U, but fell way short of my expectations and soon broke.
Update: I wanted to add that I ended up having the same issues others are having with this controller not too long after receiving it. The controller won't power on unless it's connected to an active power source, and even then the joysticks work super poorly. Thanks to InterWorks' completely unresponsive customer service, the thing is STILL sitting in my room years later along with several other broken controllers. Seriously, avoid this controller like the plague and buy a first party Pro controller if that's what you're interested in.In summary, though the wide variety of features and uses this controller has make it quite appealing, it does not function as well as Nintendo's controllers. There may be other Pro Controller U out there with better joysticks, but there have been many complaints about the device functioning poorly, hence if you have any poor experience with third party controllers in the past I would caution against buying this one. Assuming other Pro Controller U have similarly lousy control sticks, they would in general:-work perfectly for SNES VC games and any other games that use Classic Controller but not it's analogue sticks-work great for games that use the Wii Remote (Plus) vertically on its own (with or without motion control)-work decently for games that use the Wii Remote sideways (with or without motion control)-work poorly for most games that use the Classic Controller and its joysticks-not work at all for games that use the Wiimote+Nunchuk combo

This remote is amazing! If you're looking to get ahead of the game for the new Super Smash Bros. Wii U, I suggest you get this!
We all know that the new Smash Bros. game is going to be the best of the series. If you want to be ready for it and train up for its release, I suggest this beauty! It works perfectly as a Wii Remote (or Wiimote if you will...) with its amazing built in sensor located at the top of the controller in between the bumpers and triggers. In the back you have your normal Wiimote Sync Button, but since this remote is both a Wiimote AND Classic Controller, there is a switch in the back that allows you to choose between modes when ever you want during game play. The speakers are even better than the original Wiimote speakers and the remote can be set to either horizontal position or custom for when playing in Wiimote mode. This controller is amazing! It is a MUST GET item! So far its my most prized possession! It works on Wii AND Wii U!!!!!! <3

Terrible d-pad
I don't understand why they couldn't fully copy the gamepad's d-pad. The Pro Controller U's d-pad feels very flimsy, too low, and too loose. There are times when I'm playing New Super Mario Bros. U that Mario spontaneously ducks because of the loose d-pad.Other than that, I love this controller. The analog sticks feel even better than the stock Xbox 360 controller's.One small detail: I haven't gotten this controller to connect to my computer via the gbatemp-created "Wii U Pro Controller to PC" program. This might be because of my bluetooth receiver, however.
