A Structural Ironworkers beer thirty review of the hood.
I am a structural ironworker. I have put this hood to some abuse in the last week since receiving it. It is easily the best economy (Not a Nexgen or Speed Glass) hood I have used. I've used it indoors and outdoors. I haven't had it flash me while welding. The clarity of view prior to striking an arc is amazing (read no arc marks outside of your weld area). My complaints are really no fault of the hood. The included headgear does not work with a hard hat. I used a Jackson Halo. I can attach the hood to my hard hat, but the hood will continue to slip down till the nose piece is pressing into my nose. The side lenses are nice if you are welding out in the open, but when you are welding under deck or a confined space you get hit pretty hard with flash. (I solved this by cutting two new lenses from a #11 Gold that I had laying around, works like a charm). For my line of work, I love this hood. It works great, is comfortable and very affordable. Is it a Nexgen, Speed Glass or Esab? No. Did it cost me $400? No. If I drop any of the mentioned hoods off the iron and it cracks on a beam will my day be ruined? No. It's inexpensive without being cheap. I don't baby the hood, I work with it just like my other tools. I'd take a picture of it, but it's stuffed in my gangbox at work, and I don't allow phones on my jobs.

Caused UV radiation burns to my eyes!
I'm a home/hobbyist welder and for years I've had a large viewing area standard welding helmet that is not auto-darkening and required me to raise and lower the helmet manually. I thought this helmet would be a great addition to my hobby, however, after 2 days of use I will be returning the Yeswelder auto-darkening helmet and returning to my manual helmet due to UV burns on my eyes. I used the auto-darkening helmet during the repair and modification of my trailer which took approximately 5 hours total time (spread over the 2 days) arc welding 1/8 inch carbon steel. After the second day when I went to bed my eyes watered profusely and my eyelids felt like they were covered with sandpaper. I'm reasonably certain that I had the helmet adjusted properly so the only thing I can think of that caused the burns was the light coming in through the side lens. The Yeswelder helmet is really light weight and pretty comfortable to wear and I really liked the auto-darkening feature but not at the expense of my vision.Update: Within a day or so of posting this review the seller contacted me and informed me they were refunding the purchase price of the helmet and sending me their top selling helmet that does not have the side view windows free of charge. They did not want me to return the helmet with the side view windows. This was done before I was able to request a refund. They contacted me several times via Amazon after I received the new helmet to check on things. Making sure my eyes were alright and making sure I was happy with the transaction. Although my eyes were burned and quite painful, I doubt seriously that there was any intentional ill will on their part and overall I'm impressed with their concern and customer service.

Wow, what a great helmet!
I researched many welding helmets before buying this one. Having never heard of this brand I researched them as well. The reviews here helped too.As a hobbiest metal worker / classic car builder, I have had low end and high end helmets over the years and each have served their purpose. But none have had the viewing area and clarity this one does! Wow the "side" windows make such a difference in my ability to work. No longer do I need to lift hood to see the area around what I am welding. The clear view when not welding is perfect! The weight is great too, light and comfortable.People have complained about the hood strap, I have not used the hood enough to weigh in yet. I will update the review if warranted. So far I think for how I will use the unit it should do just fine.Con for me:Wish the ability to switch from weld, grind, cut was located on the outside. the small tab on the inside is not easy to change and I am often looking to make sure I am in "weld" mode prior to working.Overall this a great welding helmet and I recommend it.

Awesome Product, reasonable price.
First off it sounds silly when you buy a welding helmet because first and foremost you want a tool to do it's job but you also want to look cool. This helmet to me looked cool but it's also very functional. I wanted to learn how to weld. I was looking at a 300$ welding mask and then thought why spend that kind of money when you don't even know what you're doing so I went with a much in more affordable option in YesWelder. Auto darkening works very well. I had never worn a welding mask but off and on the mask allows you to see as your working and how your weld looks without lifting visor saving you time. I wear prescription glasses and I can easily and comfortably wear glasses under mask. I like the fact that the mask came with extra exterior lenses, and an extra battery. It also comes with a carrying bag. Over all I was very happy with it. Only critique I have is every once in awhile if the mask isn't sitting quite right on my head the nose of the mask will cut into my nose. A simple adjustment on my head typically fixes this. It's a minor annoyance but future models could use a rubber guard around that sharp plastic possibly. Also I noticed on another brand of mask a friend had that it had a little button that you could hit to test battery of light sensor. I feel like all masks should have this so you can test whether you're eyes are being protected. Overall awesome product. Thank you YesWelder

Not the best
I've been welding for almost 20 years, using mostly generic hoods, nothing too special. My last one was starting to malfunction and I started the search for a new one. I found this LYG-Q800D, which had what I was looking for and more.I wanted to try a hood with side views. They might be good for setting up and walking around, but when welding, it is way too bright. If you're out of position or not looking straight at you weld, you will be blinded. I had to cover them. The headgear is comfortable, but the adjustment knob on the back does not lock in place, over time it gets loose and needs to be tightened. The filter is very clear, blue tint, not like my other hoods that have a green tint. However, on my hold hoods, I could weld using a shade of 10-11 without it being to bright or too dark. On this hood, I have it set to the maximum setting of 13 and it's still very bright. The hood itself is very small. My nose is always hitting the filter. The chin of the hood barely covers my neck, and the sides partially cover my ears. I tried it using a half mask respirator, it's a tight fit, but the hood does not go all the way down.It might be good hood for a hobby welder that will use it a few hours a year, but if you weld all day, it's not the best.(update) I stopped using it after a day welding. I had eye fatigue caused by the filter being too bright and the side views letting too much light pass through. I also had skin burn around my neck and ears.Based on my experience, I can't recommend this hood

welding helmet
fast delivery. came with extra screens & battery. it is well packaged. instructions included are are fine if you have any sort of mechanical knowledge. fitting my head in the harness is not a big deal, the harness seems to be a bit light duty but so far its fine. up or down, on your head the helmet is light & vision is fine. i wear glasses to weld & they fit just fine inside the helmet. on the function of the helmet, i am blown away, the vision on the weld pool is excellent on both mig or stick, low & high amps, actually it is about a hundred times better than my old $250 name brand lid. anyhow, it works for me & my vision. it does not have a grind function but i do not care, i usually never grind with a welding helmet, change to a face shield, face shields are cheap, replacement lenses are not.. im cheap...

GREAT HELMET EXCEPT FOR THE HEADGEAR.
I truly wanted to love this helmet but it would not stay on my head. The teeth on the gears used in the adjusting strap/knob are made of some kind of very soft plastic. After trying to tighten it about 3 times, they failed. I took it apart and all the teeth were leaning over. If only they had of used a more rigid plastic for those teeth it might have worked out. If you don't care about the headgear, it seems to be a great helmet otherwise.

Like the 10,000 other comments, sh*theadgear!
Helmet is rather on the heavy side, however the optics are amazeballs! Huge difference using Tru-Color and the reaction time is on point...BUT...As almost everyone has mentionned, REALLY CRAPPY HEADGEAR. Broke after 30h of use, would've gladly paid a bit more for a sturdier and/or replacement headband.
