Hybrid Edition is NOT the same as "Single Variable Calculus, 7th Ed."
This review is for the HYBRID edition, which is not the full book, leaving out some critical content that is included with the other 7th edition versions ("Calculus" and "Single Variable Calculus") by the same author. The differences are not mentioned anywhere in the Amazon product description, which appears to reference "Calculus," regardless of which of the 3 versions is selected for viewing. Additionally, the content shown when you click "Look Inside" is NOT from the Hybrid edition, which is not the same. While the other versions of the book apparently have all required course content for a Calculus class, the Hybrid edition leaves out the end-of-section exercises normally assigned as homework (or for self-review). In the Hybrid edition, the missing end-of-section exercises are available on the publisher's "WebAssign" website, and access must be separately purchased for a minimum of $75.00. So by itself, the Hybrid edition won't be sufficient for a Calculus class unless it was specifically assigned by your instructor.

Awesome book
This is one of the most comprehensive calculus books I have used. Not only do you get detailed explanations but thorough examples on how to use what you're learning in the real world. There are no shortcuts either (something I appreciate), the writers put in the function in their definitions i.e. you're not just told how to do it you're told what the actual formula is so you learn how to do it by hand.

I purchased this book for a friend in college. As a retired engineer/scientist, I found the book to be well written with clear explanations and good examples with respect to the objectives of the different sections and chapters. It's got enough theory and proofs so that the student can learn the basic math processes and not just memorize formulas. This book is probably used for a 1 semester course where the students are business or non-science majors. This would probably be their last required math course being taught by the school's math department. Stewart has similar calculus books that are more comprehensive and appropriate for a calculus course of 2 semesters. I suspect some high schools may use this book for AP calc.
