It would either go backward and the squirter would work or go forward with no powered squirt gun ... but we have modified all of these to run on 12 volt power wheel batteries instead of the 8 D cells. The biggest issue we have had is trying to reuse them the next season, for 2 Winters now, the motor/gear mechanism locked up (we live in Illinois with very seasonal pool use) - which is why I have to buy new ones every year .. at least they are only $25 at Costco now, or $35 for the older style at Aldi's. **Q: can i buy just the steering part?** A: Wrong person to ask. Contact the vendor who was selling the product... sorry! **Q: Can I buy a battery and charger for bumper boat** A: Yes at Dena Battery. **Q: i am looking to buy one is it worth it for how much it is.** A: Absolutely not worth buying. We had two of them and after one use it water gun would not shut off unless we took the batteries out! I returned the one I bought. When I called the company they wouldn't give me the time of day. Only because of Amazon did I get the money back for the one I returned(The other one someone else bought). ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐ Do not buy this *by A***R on August 19, 2013* I bought two of these from either Costco or Sam's and the battery compartment ALWAYS leaks water into the battery and causes stains onto my cement! After one use the water spray part did not work and then after 2 uses the boat just didn't work because of the water leakage issue. When I found this out, I just returned the one I ordered from Amazon. My son enjoys shooting the water and driving it around the pool. The kids all love it, only problem was keeping the big kids from trying sit in it. We have not had any problems with it tearing, or getting holes in it.
