First impressions from someone who has never used gaffer tape
First things first - this roll is a BEAST. If you're wondering why the rolls aren't longer than 55 yards, it's because it would be unwieldy if it were any longer/heavier. As you can see from my pics, the roll is the exact diameter of a coffee can. I expect this thing will last me 20+ years at the rate I use it. My only other first impressions are that a) it's much stickier than I imagined (which is good) and b) it does leave a tiny string of fabric after you tear off a piece, as seen in my last pic. That being said, I'm confident that making a "clean tear" is a matter of technique, and that will come with experience. Now I'm just going to post an updated version of what I wrote on Youtube, since I'm sure it will help many of you in making a decision:"If anyone wants to know what the "absolute best" gaffer tape is, it's called Shurtape P-691, and, depending on width, it costs $60 - $100 per roll. Minimum order from any retailer is $1,000 - $2,000. Now that you know that, you can stop spending all day researching "best gaffer tape," because you can't afford it. Having said that - I've already spent MY day doing this research, and here are the results:P-691 = 12.25 mil (high tack, high tensile) (80oz/70lb)P-672 = 12 mil (medium tack, high tensile) (77oz/70lb)P-665W = 11 mil (high tack, low tensile (80oz/50lb)Pro Gaff = 11 mil (low tack, low tensile) (75oz/50lb)Gaffer Power = 11 mil (low tack, low tensile) (75oz/50lbP-628 = 10.75 mil (low tack, low tensile) (75oz/50lbAs you can see, the 665W actually has the highest adhesion of any gaffer tape. The only difference between the 665W and the "nuclear grade" 691 is that the 691 also has the high tensile strength. Both are rated for 180 deg F. I did an experiment a few years ago in Los Angeles where I monitored the interior/cabin temperature in my car for a week during the summer, and it peaked at 158*! That means any tape that's only rated for 150* is going to either come unstuck or turn to goo if left in a a hot car/bus/storage locker all day.In conclusion:1. 691 is top tier, and costs $602. 665W is second tier, and costs $303. Pro Gaff and Gaffer Power are third tier, and cost $154. Anything cheaper is probably **** tierBy the way - the statistics/figures I quoted are all direct from shurtape.com. You'll notice that the numbers on Amazon are all completely different... You can go to shurtape.com and view the individual datasheets to confirm that my numbers are correct.P.s. - I read somewhere online that Pro Gaff "Professional" is the same as P-672. It's hard to keep up with all the corporate takeovers, but I'm pretty sure that all things Pro Gaff or Permacell fall under the umbrella of Shurtape. The only unaffiliated outlier is Gaffer Power."

Good Strong Gaffers Tape
A strong sticky cloth tape that should hold up well. Perhaps not quite as thick as some other brands but plenty strong for studio work and other applications. Works week and would buy again. Price was "reasonable"

Great for muffling drum heads
Get a roll of black and white for all your drum head needs. Works great reducing the crazy sustain I get on my rack tom and floor toms. Stays in place better than moongels or drum dots. A small patch on the lip of my china cymbal also reduced the sympathetic resonance it would get when I'd hit the floor toms, plus it made the sustain of the cymbal shorter, just what the doctor ordered for some of the busy music I play.Great quality tape, the black stuff is near-invisible on Remo Emperor Suede heads. And you can peel it off without messing up the head, so it allows for ease of experimentation. The glue stays tacky, so you can even experiment with moving around and then use a bit of fresh tape for the final application.Don't hesitate getting the good stuff for your drums. You know you spend way too much on all kinds of other stuff, so get this quality tape and don't look back for many as the roll will last a LONG time!

Great strength!
My kids sleep in totally dark rooms, which is fine at home, but can be a problem other places if we don’t want to be up at dawn. I bought this to cover windows at AirB&B’s and hotels which often don’t cover windows well.During a week stay at a beach house, this held firmly onto blankets we used to cover windows from excessive sunlight and it did amazing. Never had to reattach and left no residue on the fabric or the wall. Did not remove paint or damage anything. To ensure no damage, I removed it by folding back on itself flat to the wall and pulling slowly at a 45-60’ angle to the doubled-over edge. If pulled perpendicular to the wall, it’s strong enough to likely pull of paint if done too aggressively.

Excellent quality
Thickness & adhesion are exactly what I was expecting (for my automotive wiring usage). If you go on the manufacturer’s website, you can read about all the various types of their tape, and this one has the best mixture of qualities.

Sticks well, even in higher humidity!
This gaffer tape is good quality, and it sticks to most surfaces very well. I recently used it to tape a blackout curtain over a window, and it held great. It has been humid outside (summer in Chicago) and I have used other brands of gaffer tape unsuccessfully for the same application in the past. I recommend this product. Please mark if you find my review helpful. Thank you so much!

This is the thinner version
I was after the thicker stuff, but will find uses for this... it’s good tape. The thicker stuff can be found by searching for “permacell p-672” and costs about $35 as of this review date. Both have their uses, but I run out of the thicker stuff first.EDIT: the “permacell p-672” I mention is still thinner than the Shurtape I like... thicker than this p-665 but not by much. Maybe they don’t make the thick stuff any more?

Great Tape - Too Costly
Its the kind of thing that you're glad its there because it works great for what its for, but because of the cost you have to use it sparingly and not like duct tape. This tape has just the right amount of adhesion and removes and tears easily both length ways for narrower strips and crossways without using a cutter.
