SunRay Light-box is well made
I have Seasonal Affective Disorder during the winter time. My doctor recommended this unit and use it from early October to March. I notice I feel calmer and less sad on days I use light-box. I also take less naps. . I still take my medications, but the 25 minutes in the morning with the light-box illuminated help me greatly. The unit is well made. My only complaint is that it's a little bulky to set up near my computer. I usually set it on wood storage box when sunning myself. Took about 3 days for me to start feeling the effects.

Superior light quality and convenient. The bulbs provide light in the correct wavelength which many bulbs do not. Worth the extra money.

14 years of Sunray Love!
Purchasing my Sunray Sunbox SAD Therapy Light Box fourteen years ago was a *major* sacrifice for our family of 5. We were struggling to simply survive on a single income which was little enough to qualify us as living under federal poverty levels for a family of 5.Unfortunarely, mom working outside of the home was out of the question. Where would I find the energy? Most days it was a huge struggle just to stay awake enough to be cognitive of what the kids were getting into! I was suppose to be homeschooling my 6 year old, but that was barely happening, I had no energy.Simply stated - this purchase saved our family! We never once questioned spending nearly $400 on my light box! I finally had the energy to do what needed to get done, without popping an anti-depressant pill, and waiting 4-6weeks for it to kick in! Yeah! Each and every winter I fail to pull out my Sunray, or I'm not diligent about using it, and I'm reminded of the hell winters used to be for me - but only for a day or two!I subsequently found the Northern Lights Desk Lamp ($230 retail) for $7 at a thrift store, so I'm now blessed to have two therapy lamps/boxes. Today I'm shopping for replacement bulbs.

Beautiful light, especially in winter
I bought the SunRay through another vendor before Amazon listed it, but I'll testify that I'm not an employee or in any way connected to the company. The SunRay is expensive. In my opinion, it's worth it. Its light is terrific for reading or other activities (I have it set up over my piano so that I actually use it year-round). I have found it especially helpful in winter when I use it in early mornings before and around sunrise. When I first got the SunRay, It took a couple of weeks to notice any change, but gradually & increasingly I found that the short, gray, dreary days weren't bothering me as much as they had in the past. The days just seemed...well, they just seemed _brighter_. The effect wasn't earth-shaking, but it's absolutely noticeable. For me it's enough to make a real difference in overall outlook and personal energy.I got the light box nearly 14 years ago. The bulbs seem never to burn out. I recommend it very strongly.

Great for Whole Room Lighting
Not being a morning person, I am always looking for ways to facilitate my predawn regimen. So, when I stumbled across the SunBox SunRay at the apartment of a friend who happened to be a psychiatrist, I was rather intrigued. Ultimately, I purchased the light box and connected it to an electronic timer so that it would join forces with my alarm clock. It has been a great setup. In the clinical application, the user is expected to sit within a few feet of the box which would be perpendicular to the ground. This is far too intense for normal use. Instead, I place the box facing the ceiling on top of a bookcase. This arrangement is shown in the customer images at the left. In this position, the entire room is lit up by brilliant full-spectrum light. With the light output of a 500watt halogen torchiere, the Sunray only consumes 140 watts of electricity. Of course, as intended, the light quality is superior to any halogen incandescent.Unfortunately, the SunBox SunRay has two limitations. The first is cost. At $400, the price is a bit inflated, presumably due to its medical applications. For far less money, you could use 4-5 Feit Daylight100 watt compact fluorescent bulbs. Secondly, the box is a bit large for some applications. But again, it is designed for a patient to sit directly next to it for therapeutic reasonsIf you can afford the SunBox SunRay, the light quality is unbeatable. Regardless of the season or the time of day, it will fill an entire room with full-spectrum light that will please you and your guests.ProsBrilliant white lightInstant onEnergy efficientConsExpensiveBulky for some applications

This is the one!
I've used this lightbox for ten years and it's made a huge difference in the quality of my life in the fall and winter. This is the box used in national research that proves the effectiveness of light therapyon depression and SADD. Lumens are important in a lightbox and this one is the best. The bulbs last a long time and I've only had to replace them once in ten years. If you're looking for quality, this is the one.

Gave me my life back.
Saved my life! I've used the same box since 1999, every winter and I totally notice when I don't use it. Gave me my life back.

A bit pricey, but great.
A bit pricey but great. If you can afford it and have the winter blues due to lack of sunlight, then buy it. I give it 5 stars.
