Duofold Centennial Fountain Pen, Classic Black with Gold Trim, Medium Solid Gold Nib, Black Ink and Convertor, Premium Gift Box

I am new to the fountain pen world but must admit I have amassed quite the collection to date. Waterman kept coming up over and over again as some of the best fountain pens and I will admit I dismissed it as fanboyism. Am I glad I was WRONG! I purchased the Carene in black Sea. The pen is GORGEOUS. The nib which I was on the fence when I pulled it out of its beautiful presentation box made me pause I prefer broad nibs and assumed this would be more of a fine than a medium. WRONG again! This is a medium which feels like more of a broad. To say that I am happy would be an understatement. If I could, I would buy these in EVERY single color. The Carene feels, writes and looks like a premium fountain pen. I now understand the love that the fountain pen community has for the Waterman fountain pen line it is well deserved. Part of me wants to make this my EDC another part of me wants to set it up in a shrine. This is the kind of pen that makes a superior gift and would put a fountain pen lover over the moon. Not enough wonderful things can be said about this pen.

I was very much excited about the pen. First thing took pictures, specially nib and magnified. Clearly looks to be refurbished. The "W" (Waterman logo) is not clearly itched. Giving indication locally made and not made by Waterman. I wish Amazon sees these things and does not sell such product as original product. See the way nib is fixed in body. Marking of filing on nib, plastic and glue. Very much disappointed.

Beauty-full pen - writes gorgeously, smooth on paper, and comfortable to hold. My favourite along with the Mont Blanc fountain pen.

This pen has a great design — probably one of the most elegant I’ve ever seen. The inlaid nib looks amazing and it has, what I assume to be, a massive feed behind it that can hold a gallon of ink by itself. The nib is well polished, the paint lacquer is consistent, and the size is very comfortable. My initial delivery had an all too common issue with Carènes, which is that the the pen’s tail does not align perfectly with the nib. There was also a baby’s bottom to the nib. This happens here more likely because the nib is slightly squared off (very cool) but makes the allowable margin of error when polishing much lower. The nib wasn’t absolutely horrible, but it always gave a hard start right after uncapping. There would also be be a skip whenever the feed couldn’t keep up a gushing flow; so about every 10 words or so with moderate to fast pace. Fortunately, I received a hassle free replacement from Amazon and it’s perfect! The tail aligns and it writes flawlessly — my new favourite pen.
