Completely useless for deterring chipmunks
I bought two sets of these to place around the perimeter of my garden in an attempt to deter chipmunks from ruining my plants. The smell is tolerable, though quite strong with 4 cork trees placed along a 30 ft long garden. I'd upload some pics I took of the chipmunks sitting beneath them eating a half-ripened tomato, but I'm too disgusted. Don't bother if you're buying these solely for chipmunks.

WORKS but has a very strong scent.
My neighbors cats kept using the mulch in the front of our house as a litter box. DISGUSTING. My neighbor offered to bury it in my own mulch for me. GEE THANKS but no. I ordered this item to hopefully keep them away. IT WORKS. I have had it up for over a week now and no cats to be seen and no droppings. It has a very strong peppermint scent. It doesn't smell bad, but it is very strong. I had to do some work in my front yard and it was making me dizzy being near it. I had to put a box over it while I was near it. I also had to cover it when we wanted to open our front window on a nice day. I would rather deal with the smell than have cat poo right by my front door. I will purchase the spray can to refresh them if needed. UPDATE 1: It has been almost two weeks and the scent is still as strong as could be. I wonder if you could save some $ buy just buying some peppermint oil and spraying it on the mulch? UPDATE 2: I have had two of these outside of my front door for over 7 weeks now and they still work. We have even had some heavy rain storms during the time that I put them out and the sent is still there. The scent has diminished, but that is good. They are very strong when they are new. Best of all, STILL NO CATS! SWEET!

Didn't work for me.
I have a problem with a cat hoarder living in the house across from my apartment building. She has at least a dozen cats on her front lawn at any given time and one of them has taken to coming on my patio in the middle of the night and peeing on my new furniture. My county's Animal Control will not help me because the county "doesn't have a rule against cats". I've tried a lot of repellants that haven't worked and U Scram was my last hope. Sadly, this product hasn't worked for me. I received my order last Monday and immediately put it to work. My space is about 6'x8' and I put both of my large U Scram spikes out on the patio. The scent is not my cup of tea (smells like a mixture black licorice and fennel) but it was so strong that I thought it'd do the trick. (I took another reviewer's advice and didn't open it in my apartment. I'm very glad I listened because I had to stick the packaging in 4 plastic bags just to hold the scent in. The package was dripping with the oil so I know they were well saturated/not defective.)Anyway, my patio has been smelling funky for a whole week, the smell is so strong that I can't stand to sit on my patio or even have my front door open to let the screen door's breeze in. Aside from that, as I left for work this morning I came eye to eye with a cat lounging happily on my furniture about a foot from one of the U Scram spikes. So, there you have it--exactly one week in and the cats don't care at all. I'm really bummed out over it and I won't be purchasing this product again.

Edited review
I have recently moved to a neighborhood where cats roam freely. I love to have bird feeders in my yard to attract the wild birds. Unfortunately they also seem to attract the cats. I tried granules that did not work. Then I saw this product advertised, so I bought it. I put them out. Next morning there was a cat beside the spike. Since then I have had four or five more cats that do not seem to be at all bothered by the smell and sit within a few feet of the spike. Fortunately, I also fine the smell to be quite pleasing. I just wish there was some cat deterrent that really works without harming the animals!EDITED REVIEWWhen I wrote the first review U Scram sent me two more. Since I have placed these with the first two it has been a lot more effective, and the cats have not been so persistent. I would recommend you buy four rather than two so they can be placed about 4 feet apart when you are first trying to discourage cats that have had free reign over your garden. I have been very pleased with U Scram's response and their checking that things are working... Joan

It works, but hope it can last longer
The cats on the street often use our front and back yard as litter boxes. I have tried other cat repellent products, but none of them worked well. Then I found U Scram. I bought two sets, one set for the front yard and another set for the back yard. Guess what, we did not have any cat droppings for a couple of weeks. This product definitely works. But there is a problem. The strong smell that drives cats away started fading pretty quickly. It has just been two weeks and I can hardly smell them unless I get very close, and the cats have started to come back. There was no rain in the past two weeks, so I don't think it is because of that.So overall, I think this is a good product. But for the price, I wish they could last longer. The description of the product says it will last 6 to 8 weeks. But apparently it is not the case. Maybe there is something wrong with the particular two sets I bought.

U scram Cat deterrent
I had such high hopes for this product. I was trying to keep out cats who are attacking my cat. After a $300 vet bill, I had to do something. We bought a bunch of these and made a barrier on the side where the other cats come in. Just a note: these items stink; not that it such a bad odor (reminds me of licorice) but very strong. We used rubber gloves to handle them. The cats would literally shimmy right by them as if they didn't even notice anything. Total bummer. Then had to find and remove them, once again with gloves and tied them up in a plastic bag and tossed them...what a waste of money. Oh...removed them because all of a sudden we were inundated with coyotes and foxes. Don't know if there is a correlation there, but, better safe than sorry I say.
