## Description

Words that come to mind while listening to Coconuts debut album: ugliness, despair, un-marketability. Theirs is a sound rooted in inherent darkness, influenced by early-80's post-punk, no wave (fellow Australians The Birthday Party come to mind) and the bleakest of world-views. It's an almost disorienting experience, created by homemade guitars that seem to leak feedback, built by founding members Tim Evans and Jordan Redaelli (the aforementioned Australians). The duo met up with pacific-northwesterner Daniel Mitha in New York City, whose primitive drumming completed the group.

What a Fantastic recording. Yes, this is psyche with goth undertones and melodic as hell. This is not as dark as some would lead you to think but it is a required taste for a muture listener. I like this as much as any Loop album and this is done in the same vein yet not as heavily guitar driven. This shares its focus with drums and other worldly influences. Hard to beleive this is their first and only release so far. The first song is fantastic, the second is cooler and the third is the hardest for the listener to grasp becaue I think it could have been cut down to 3.5 minutes but eventually it does grab you,the fourth song is a fantastic beauty almost shoegazer delight and too short for such, the fifth song is expansive and a nice ending but I hope it is not the end for this band. I cannot wait for the next release. 4.5 Stars.
