Two confirmed rats
A neighbor across the street was cleaning out his garage and said he saw a rat. So I thought where there's one there must be at least one more (always two there are... lol). A professional exterminator working in an office building told me sticky traps were what he used and they worked best. So I ordered a couple sticky traps from Amazon to put in the garage. To make a long story short while setting up the sticky trap i caught... a bird. WTH?!!? Got it off, luckily, and it flew away. Put the trap in the garage and caught... three lizards. First question, how many freakin' lizards are in there and what are they doing in there? Next question is how do I get them off? Checked the Internet and everyone said natural oils dissolve the sticky, so I tried olive oil and that worked and I put the lizards in the yard. I knew I could not put out poison bait even in the gated yard because one neighbor has a lot (LOT) of cats and I didn't want to hear her say all her cats keeled over. Plus there are other animals around. In the past I noticed stores and restaurants all have small boxes outside. I thought they were rodent motels (traps) but after looking at one realized they were bait stations. So I ordered this one. Just put it on the ground in the yard against a wall behind a planter where I thought a rat might hang out. Nothing for a two weeks, then I open a gate and there is a dead rat laying there. After disposing of it like it was radioactive waste I recalled I thought I saw rat droppings in a relative's garage so I bought another one and put it in that garage. Again nothing for a couple weeks. Then... a funny smell for a couple weeks. Ick. Looked on the Internet and that's a thing. If you use rodent poison indoors (or if the rats are going in and out of the house) that can happen because they don't keel over in the bait station, they walk around a while. Someone told me he put out some poison and saw a rat after it ate the poison and he said it was walking around like it was drunk. So: for the yard, this bait station is good. In the house, maybe not so much. I'd use sticky traps or snap traps in the attic for example. However, I'd screw sticky traps to a piece of wood, then anchor that wood (or snap trap) with a light chain or heavy test fishing line to a 2x4. That way I could pull the thing out if the rat managed to flip it into some weird corner where it was hard to reach (NOTE: be careful when a rodent (or any mammal) is stuck on the trap (especially a sticky trap), if it's still alive it can bite and then you're off to the ER for a rabies vaccination). From what I've read snap traps are more effective and in the long run more humane. For the garage where there might be things I didn't want to catch? Not sure. If the garage isn't too cluttered and entry points into the house are sealed I'd try a bait station or if I saw a trail or droppings I'd try snap traps (out of reach of lizards and cats). For those unfamiliar with the term, here are some snap traps. Mouse: Victor Easy Set Mouse Trap 4 Pack M033 and rat Victor Metal Pedal Rat Trap M201

Perfect and easy
Take it out of the box and it's ready. Fully preloaded and in my coop, mice or rat have been eating my eggs. I've used a similar product before that wasn't preloaded . It worked but I had to handle the poison

Does exactly what it is supposed, keeps pets out.
This did exactly what it was designed to do as my year old Lab puppy decided to run around the house and "fetch" this for me the other day. I was really worried but she didn't chew on it and she wasn't able to get into the bait. I keep it locked up on the side by the trash and recycle bin but I was taking them out when she decided to retrieve this for me. Though it isn't water proof it is designed to be water resistant from falling rain. The opening on the side would obviously allow water to flow into the unit but I wasn't worried about that as much as I was occasional rain dissolving the bait. So if you have kids, pets, especially puppies that could grab this it is a good option. I would not put it in a place that either have any time to try to get into it. I know my puppy could have easily chewed the unit open, but it did prevent just open unrestricted access.

MY FAIL....AMAZONS SUCCESS!
THIS IS NOT A NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT AS WE HAVE NOT USED IT!I PURCHASED THIS TO STOP CRITTERS FROM EATING OUR TOMATO PLANTS, WHICH WE GROW EACH SUMMER. AFTER I BOUGHT THIS, MY WIFE ADVISED THAT ANY ANIMAL THAT EATS THE BAIT AND THEN IS ITSELF EATEN BY ANOTHER ANIMAL, SUCH AS A CAT...WILL DIE FROM THE POISON. I DID NOT THINK THAT PART THROUGH WHEN PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT AND (KUDOS TO AMAZON). WHEN I ASKED TO RETURN THE ITEM THEY CREDITED THE COST TO MY PRIME ACCOUNT.I PURCHASED ALTERNATE PRODUCTS FROM AMAZON TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM, I LEARNED MY LESSON AND AMAZON BAILED ME OUT FROM REPERCUSSIONS WITH MY WIFE!

Good Riddance Rodent
For the first time in over 10 years, after moving a bunch of fallen trees back in the woods, a rat decided to visit our crawl space. Dug a damn hole and moved in. This purchase arrived quickly, was overly easy to place by the hole (remove from box-place by hole-fini) and the hole is no longer active. (filled in with leaves and debris and the little b*stard hasn't been seen). Several others have been put out to keep any relatives from coming to the funeral. Great product.

Found one dead rat in swimming pool.
Thank goodness it's winter. If i go back in water, it will be many months from now. No other signs of dead or alive roof rats.UPDATE Since posting my review after seeing a dead rat in the pool, I haven't seen any live rats. Originally, they came over my back wall from a neighbor's hoouse after he moved out. There were many at first and they were large and scary, so I am happy to say that, by all appearences, all rat s are dead or gone elsewhere.

Not sure if it works or not
Put this out after glue traps had failed several nights in a row as an uninvited guest attempted to get into a bag of dog food (even after it was moved into a plastic bin). The bait wasn't touched, but a few nights after placement of the Tomcat Rat Killer the glue trap captured a rodent. So maybe it distracted it? Haven't had signs of any more since then, so maybe it also scared them away? Bait has not been touched after weeks of use.

Not Entirely Sure This Is The Best Solution
Roof rats were eating my wife's avocados - right off the tree! After this arrived I started worrying that a poisoned rat would die in the back yard where the dogs could get to it. Most authorities on the subject say that the poison becomes inert after being ingested by the primary animal, but I just don't want the dogs playing with and possibly eating a dead rodent.I wound up getting a Rat Zapper instead and that seems to be working very well so far - 3 rats and 3 field mice eliminated in the first 4 months.

good bait, so-so package
I based my rating on using this product as a outside container. It did not perform well as the opening was too little for the size of rat I was trapping yet it let in water to soak the bait. I eventually used contains made out of used yogurt contains to much better effect, cheaper too.

It worked for us!!! HUGE RAT DEAD AT 2 WEEKS OF HAVING BAIT
Holy Jesus!!!! We got a huge friggen rat.Just as I was starting to give up on these things, about two weeks after I put the down. BOOOM!!! A rat about a foot long was dead in the backyard right where the baits are. I put two of them down and noticed that slowly the bait was disappearing but didn't know if it was from the Rat or something else.Well we know now!!!! So happy!!!

Not for rats !! They dont like it !

Not as good as a trap but hey, less risky for other animals
A Trap is way better (caught three with the trap) BUT, a trap can catch other animals so this is safer.
