Upgrading from Square Taper setup to Octalink
I damaged my 1996 Specialized Rockhopper left crank by stupidly trying to take the left pedal off by turning it the wrong way and stripped the pedal threads. So . . . Needed a new crankarm, which is unobtanium, so have to get a new crankset which drove me to upgrade/replace my bottom bracket based on the pandemic created shortage of parts and bike shop availability/responsiveness. Hollow Tech II is the current preferred equipment set, and Octalink is yesteryear's passed by standard, but it works for my bike just fine. If you need to remove Octalink crank arms you'll need the Park Tool CCP-44C.

New chain, new crank
I knew it was time to replace the chain on my mountain bike because it kept skipping teeth under load. And I have a tool that measures chain wear, so it wasn't my imagination. But the new chain skipped even worse. Time to get a new crank. I was not able to find one that exactly matched what it was replacing. The crank arms were slightly longer on this and the large gear had a few more teeth. Not a problem. It came with the bolts that hold it on. Swapped out the old crank and no more skipping. I now have a wider range of gears. I will look for this again when it comes time to replace.

Nice Crankset
This worked perfectly to replace a shimano octalink - Shimano MC430, 44/32/22 from my talus 8.0 Raleigh. The new one works great. I used a park octalink puller - CCP-44C to get the old shimano off.
