Best is relative - this is my new favorite chef's knife.
I am a home cook with aspirations to improve my culinary skills. I am also an artist who has worked with and for a few knife makers, so i know more than the average person about them. This is not a high-end knife, but it is for me, the perfect chef's knife. The rubberized grip is very secure, even with wet hands. The 6" blade length is what I feel most comfortable using day to day, even though 8" or longer blades are the standard. The thin profile is exceptional for fine slicing and dicing, and most of my time is spent on prep. It's not flashy, but it is well made with a full tang and good steel that holds an edge (according to reviewers). It's stainless, not high carbon, and it will not impress anyone, but it is well suited to a kitchen and also very affordable. This is fortunate because my wife has already shown an interest in it... and I can see I'm going to have to buy another one!

It is a great cutting tool in the kitchen. If you could have only one knife, this is it.
Worth every penny. This is now my go to knife. It is used 90% of the time while the other ten knives sit there and watch. Holds a good edge.

Sharp and comfortable knife
This is my second Mercer knife and I'm loving this one as much as the paring knife. I'm learning how to quickly slice produce and this knife is awesome. It has plenty of room under the handle so you're not bumping your knuckles on the surface. Comfortable grip and very sharp. Nice balance so you can move quickly. Really makes cooking fun! Highly recommend these knives!

Best of the Second Tier
We love to cook and our expensive top end knifes are mostly Wusthof, a few Japanese Enso, and oldFrench Dumas knifes. The Mercer series has very much impressed me, with their bread knife being second to none. The are made with high carbon-no stain, stainless steel (that term being mostly irreverent). They have nice handles, good balance, and are easy to sharpen and maintain. I have brought several sets -6/8 inch chiefs and bread knife for my younger relatives and a few friends. I'm sure the rest of the line is good.Makes a great gift for beginner cooks...

great balance and perfect size
8 inch chef knives tend to be a little unwieldy for me, so this 6-inch knife is a really good fit for my hand. it's nice and sharp and a great shape.

Best knife I have ever used
This knife stays very sharp even through heavy use. I do a lot of cooking and have had many knives throughout my 72 years, this Mercer is without a doubt the best. The 6 inch blade balances nicely in your hand and is comfortable to hold.

Very economical & quality small chef knife
Excellent! This knife is easily on par with -or better than- the big name brands for a fraction of the price. Same steel as the big names, same shape, better handle material. Handle fits nicely in hand made of grippy, firm rubber that looks nice and should hold up well. Good balance, arrived sharp and needed no touch up. Cuts just like the big name it copies. At 6" this is a great sub for the 6" 'utility' knife that typically comes in a set (and is usually garbage). Good for all purpose prep and perfect size for an aspiring pre-teen or teen who cooks but might be intimidated by 8" /10" chef knife. My only complaint would be that the logo/ writing on the blade is too big. Minor issue for the value here.

My New Knife Crush
Is it possible to have a crush on a knife? I find myself looking for reasons to use it. I love holding it. Balance is dead on. The 6 inch length is perfect for my small hands. And it rocks like a star. I have all the "best" knives (Global, Wustof, etc.) and this one is just as fine. Now maybe it will dull more quickly or something - we'll see, and if it does, I'll update the review - but I got the red metal AnySharp Pro, and I'm into both right now. If I'd had this knife first, I'm not sure I'd have sprung for the spendier stuff. I'm glad I did my research online and came up with the decision to buy this over another. Solid choice, great price, rock on.
