MDH T-Plus Masala (Spice Blend for Tea & Milk), 1.22-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 10)

We tried T-Plus Masala a few years ago for the first time and we were hooked, but could no longer find a place to purchase it. We found it online and ordered 10 packages. It's quick to prepare and it's tasty.

It's awful, for chai masala.

Maybe it is just a matter of taste, but living with Indians and having certain knowledge of making masala chai I can say that this is not the best mix. Too much pepper and not enough cardamom. It is always better to make masala from your own whole spices.

This is great. You get a lot for what you pay for and it will last a long time. You are only supposed to use like a teaspoon if you are making say a single serving (one mug's worth). Any more than a teaspoon and it will taste gross and burn your throat like as if you were eating too much pepper!! I make the tea in the pot of boiling water so it is hard to judge how much to put in. I put in too much once and i had to throw the tea out it was too spicy and stung the back of my throat. Just too much. Its a good buy. Great flavour. Just remember, only put a little in!! Just for slight flavour!!!

MDH T-Plus masala is what we in the States would call "ground chai spices". In India "chai" means "tea" and "masala" is a spice mixture, so correctly this would be "chai masala" or "spice mixture for tea". This version contains the usual suspects: anise, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, cloves, and star anise. It would, of course, be nice to have these spices freshly ground, but when that isn't practical (is it ever?), this Indian import does the trick.

If there is a better tasting masala mix, I'd like to know about it. T-Plus has a nice balance of spices, and the flavor is fresh and invigorating. I know that taste is subjective, but for my taste this is the best masala I've ever tried.
