Great Upgrade for your burning needs..
Bought this to swap out old dvd player in a Inspiron 1501 laptop. Very easy to remove, just remember to pop the tray out as though you were going to load a disc into your drive, leave it open, then shutdown your laptop. Makes it very easy to remove doing it in that format. Also remove your battery while replacing the drive, FYI.. Once replaced, booted up and works like a charm. When writing, does tend to make some noise, but not too bad. I did find that there is NO firmware, well, none that I can find, for the drive to upgrade too. That does bother me a bit, but to date no problems reading discs or burning to them. Of course if someone does find firmware upgrades that work with the drive, please post, would love to see. All in all if your looking for a dvd burner, and it's compatible with your laptop, go for it. Dual Layer is supported, but have yet to try on the drive.. Gave it 4 out of 5 stars, because the lack of firmware upgrades that most modern dvd writers now day's allow.. Below are the specs for the drive, it's a Sony Optiarc, for those wondering, well, at least the drive I got is..DISCINFO VERSION : 1.7.0 BETA.12VENDOR : OptiarcMODEL : DVD RW AD-7580AREVISION : ZX09VENDOR SPECIFIC : SonyLOADING MECHANISM : TraySERIAL NUMBER : 30658240NUMBER VOL. Great replacement drive for Inspiron 1520
The drive in my laptop was intermittently failing to read and write. This drive arrived within 3 days from Equickship in perfect working order. It fits my Inspiron 1520 perfectly. In my older 1505 it sat back in the housing about half an inch but still opened and closed fine. The reason for fitting the new drive into the 1505 was to power it up. This was necessary so that I could open up the new drive in order to switch the front plate of the drive (the plastic front of the drive with the eject button on it) as the plate for the 1520 is designed with one of the corners cut off. This was an easy process. There are two clips towards the sides of the plate. All you have to do is to depress these clips with a small screw-driver to release the plate from the drive itself. As stated here in other reviews, installation of the drive itself is a doddle! Leave the drive door open when you shut down. Unscrew the single screw on the bottom of your laptop that holds the drive in place and pull the drive out. I had to unscrew the housing for the screw attached to the original drive and attach it to the new one, but again, this was simplicity itself. The new drive is a Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-7580A with a manufactured date of only 15 months from date of purchase. I bought it to replace the original Hitachi GSA-T11N. The read/write specs are very similar but I have noticed that it appears to write a little more slowly to DVD+R discs. I have had it installed for a couple of weeks. I have read shop-bought DVDs and CDs and backup copies from DVD+R, DVD-R & CD-R. It writes flawlessly to DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R & CD-RW.All things considered this is an almost like for like replacement for my 3 year old drive at a very reasonable price ($50.90). I'm considering ordering a second one as IDE connections, such as these drives rely on, are fast becoming obsolete.

Great Service
I ordered this item for my Dell B130 laptop. I was a little skeptical because I never ordered from BrainyDeal before; but I needed it and it was at a good price. The item arrived on time; well-boxed; and a snap to install. However, it did not work. There are no drivers or updates available for this product, as my husband spent several days searching the internet and trying various techniques. So I contacted BrainyDeal stating my reasons for returning and requesting a RMA#. I was contacted by "Bree" from BrainyDeal with the RMA# but also with instructions for getting it work, and suggestions for further internet searches. So we gave Bree's instructions a try, and it still did not work. Knowing my husband was frustrated, I tried an internet search on my own when he left for work. I was specific as I could be and low-and-behold I found someone else who had my same laptop and problem. I read thru the replies and found a Microsoft Fix It site. I followed the instructions and at the conclusion it seemed fixed; but only when I rebooted the computer. Behold...it worked!! I contacted Bree and thanked Brainydeal for their EXCELLENT customer service and providing me with the insight I needed to get the item to work. Brainydeal is an exceptional company with the power to assist customers and provide solutions; but were willing to accept the item back for a replacement or refund. I wish all companies were as good as BrainyDeal and customer service reps as Bree! I will surely be recommending BrainyDeal to others!! Thank you!!
