There is a strap on the inside that you slip 4 fingers in to hold on to that makes it easier to hold while scrubbing.

how long does one loofah last?

I was able to use it for about a month before I noticed serious fraying on the natural fibers on the face of it as well as a slight mildew smell, and that is with daily use and being stored in the shower.

I'm a veteran with no hand or finger function. Are these flexible so they will bend in the middle to stay on my hand? The pads I have are too stiff.

There is a strap along the back of these pads that go over your fingers and around the back of your hand. Once the pads become a bit saturated with water, they become more supple (ie a bit more bendy). The bend is more around the hand from side to side than from top to bottom (but do that a bit too). Hope this helps.

Are these sustainably harvested?

Doubt it, my packet said made in the Philippines. So since the packet is in bulk, it may not be.
