The Judge's List

I thought it was good then I realised it wasn’t
I have read every book by this author. Although this is better than his last couple of books, it promises much but doesn’t deliver. The theory of the plot is good but there are a number of failings. The end is not very good. No explanation of the change of mind. It’s a page turner but overall, disappointing. It just puzzles me who such a great writer has gone so downhill.

Not one of Grishams best.
Have read all Grishams novels to date and this is not the best of truth be told. Ending( and I will not spoil it) felt as if he ran out of ideas!! Plot was quite dry and it took me about a week to read instead of a couple of days, started Michael Connelly new novel yesterday and will finish today. Connelly still knows how to hook the reader unfortunately Grisham is losing his edge with this and the Camino island books

A bit of a slog
Grisham returns to the land of sequels as we return to the investigators of dodgy judges, and a horrifying accusation is made. With this novel, I feel like I might be on the Grisham off ramp. The narrative style is becoming increasingly dry and hard to engage with, and it feels like Grisham in this book particularly has started taking lessons from other crime writers I’ve given up on about how graphic to be in describing violent criminal activity, and that’s not what I’m here for.I found the novel to be a bit of a slog, and just really wanted it to be over all the way until the conclusion. That itself was very true to the Grisham style, which I’d describe as being unable to provide a satisfying ending. So I don’t know if I’m even going to bother with the next book. Maybe that’s the end.

Gone off the boil
I read every John Grisham novel written. There’s a marked decline in story quality and writing over the years. While this is slightly better than some of the last few, in general, John looks like someone who is only writing for pure profit (not necessarily a bad thing) rather than expanding a good story

Not in mint condition
I'm sure the book will be brilliant when I get round to reading it - all Grisham's books are great. Delivery was fine and done in less than two days. However, a few of the pages in the middle were slightly crumpled. Not good as I deliberately chose "new" and "hardback" expecting it to be in mint condition. Some carelessness along the way but certainly not enough for me to return it. The three stars is a mark of my disappointment with the crumpled pages and not a comment on the quality of Grisham's work. I like my books to look new when I finish them so this book was a bad start from that point of view.
