Its a timer
Does the job, I have several scattered around the house especially at at Christmas time to put the lights on and off.Once you know how to set it up and how the button for on, auto, and off works then its fine. If you want it on longer but don't want to change the times then just press the on/off button till it switches on then one more press and it stays on till the next off time and just reverts to the times you've set. Saves a lot of time running around switching on and off. Also can be set to switch a light on at certain times when away from home as security.Only complaint is it doesn't change when the clocks in forward or back. Has to be adjusted manually.

the best
I bought those because they made in UK so I am sure they wont catch on fire like chineese knock off products. The timers are well build , I already ghot one years ago and it still works today. Now I have 4 in my house doing their job automating lots of tasks. Its a dream. Now for the instructions on how to use them: I actually owned one that I got from charity shop, so I never got instructions before - and I figured it all out.It is quite simple really. Here is some usefull tricks:To change 24h to 12h - hold Clock button foe few secondsTo add a new program press + (little number will display the name of the program in this case 1)Now press SET and use + and - to adjust all required settings like days etc, this will be when the relay turn ON after that you have to tell the machine when to turn offTo addd program after this one to turn OFF press + and again press + and you can see it shows name of the program (1) and (Off ) just like above press set and use + and - to choose all settingsNow if you want to preview all programs just press + and keep pressing it to see them all.In order to turn a program off or on select it first using + button and then click ON/OFF button the time will disapear and horizontal lines will be there instead that means program is disabled.RND button means the Relay will turn on and off randomly,C.D. Button is to set up count downTo set up count down press Minus button then SET choose to be on or off state then input the time once time is set press C.D, button it will start counting now and execute on or off actionIf you get stuck and not sure what is going on press CLOCK button to go back to main clock view and start over again.Reset can be pressed in with a pen or a toothpick, it is used to reset the timer. If you used the relay for some nefarious reasons like strobing sometihng too demanding or caused an inductive load or something else that caused the timer to go creazy - the display wont be responding etc- disconnected the output device and press reset button and it should bo back to normal (all programs should be reseted too)I would advise not to use this with inductive loads ( large fans, tesla coils etc) or powerfull heaters or ovens, as it is not advised. I use mine for lights this device is rated to 8A and 2000W Max

Easy to use
I have had many timers over the years, both mechanical and electronic, and this one is my favourite. The mechanical ones are usually easier to program, but don't have any options. The electronic ones are more difficult to program and I usually have to refer to the instruction manual, but with this Timer is easier than most. The angle of the display and buttons is very good. In the UK our sockets are normally near the floor, so with this Timer you can see and control it by looking down on it, without having to lay flat on the floor like you have to with some Timers. There is a command that is not mentioned in the instruction manual: if you want to remove a program setting, pressing the On/Off button will clear it.I believe this device would be improved with a Backlight, but its not a major issue.

Good value timer plug
EXTRASTAR Digital Timer Plug Socket: - Well made and looks and feels quite robust. Buttons are a little small and fiddly, but once programmed (away from the socket and item it will control) and then plugged in to the socket with the item the only button you might need to press is the one that switches the power on / off outside the timing you have set. These are the same as one I had from B&Q many years ago and that lasted 7 years. So in all great value. The programming is a little technical to get used to but it is logical in it's progression and does offer so much variety. I have used this for our electric blanket. We tried a mechanical plug but my wife could not sleep with the ticking that created. This is obviously silent but I like it because I can set it to come on for 5 minutes every 30 minutes which means I don't get cooked and she stays warm all night!!

Over complicated timer settings
Despite what a previous reviewer wrote this is not made in the UK, it is of course made in China!I found the method for setting the timer over complicated, and one of the two units has not functioned properly. Over the years I have bought a number of makes, and the only one which still works has a simple notch based mechanical timer. I wish I had bought one of these.

This has been a winter blessing
I am a single guy living alone , I have a great place with rolling fields for a view. Only drawback is I do not have gas supply at this house. So I'm on Electric heaters and a wood burner. I bought these to be able to make my house warm when I get home. Took me a little time to program it in but my house is now warm from 6pm till 10pm, 7am till 9am, and slightly different on the weekend. This little gem is so perfect for what I needed and will stop me leaving my heating on by accident. Within the winter time it will pay for itself im sure. Does the job well. I especially like the fact you can turn it on/off outside of the usual program settings and still control if it carries on with the auto setting or not. Really handy.

Not easy to select auto
Careful that you correctly select the ‘auto’ function. Sometimes it says auto but is actually ‘on’. It depends when you select the auto function is the on/off/auto sequence. Took me ages.
