Good inexpensive shoe cover
Everyone downrating this product doesn’t know how to use them. I have a size 13.5 US shoe, and the medium size cover works fine. Here’s the reason why they are having trouble:1. This is a SHOE cover to make a shoe look like a boot.2. The elastic portion goes in between the ball of your foot and the heel.3. Attach the elastic BEFORE you slide your foot into the shoe.4. “Waaaahhh it won’t stay up!” Well, this thing has laces for a reason. Run the laces at the top around your leg under the cuff and THEN lace the boot. The lace at the top can be tightened to hold it up. Not rocket science.5. It is a COSTUME piece and isn’t designed to be rugged. If cared for, it will last. If you are tearing the elastic, it means you’re doing something wrong. Remember- attach to shoe first, then CAREFULLY slide your foot into the cover.6. This isn’t designed to fit over a boot, so don’t expect it to. It will fit over a SHOE. Use a cheap black dress shoe like in the picture.

DEFECTIVE BUT EFFECTIVE with Fixes
Total crap for one glaring reason!!!As others have stated these boot toppers DO NOT STAY UP AT ALL!!! There’s absolutely nothing to keep these things from IMMEDIATELY FALLING DOWN AROUND YOUR ANKLES! I had to jerryrig these just like many other reviewers.Someone suggested safety pins which I DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you want your legs to get accidentally poked with a pin at some Point throughout your day. I went to a festival in these and too much walking back and forth with multiple giant safety pins wasn’t a risk I was into. Here was my fix... 1. I went to Walmart and in their craft section they have a $2.50 roll of elastic that I bought. It’s about 1 inch think by 2.5 feet. It was a perfect amount.2. I bought a package of $3 strips of double sided Velcro from Amazon.I cut the elastic and tied two straps around each knee just above my calf. You do have to tie them fairly tight but the elastic gives when you walk (unlike a shoelace or something which won’t work) so it’s actually not uncomfortable. Then I folded the flaps of the boot covers down over the elastic so you couldn’t see them.At this point there will still be extra cloth that folds over the top of the boot that doesn’t look good. The easy fix here is the Velcro. Double sided Velcro on either side just under the top lip of the boot cover keeps everything nicely in place.I proceeded to go to Gasparilla in Tampa for an 8 hour party session and I probably walked 15 miles and they never fell down once.I added a total of $7 more dollars to fix these but even with a total of $20 or so invested they are still cheaper than $50-$100 real men’s pirate boots and they looked good.

Great look, needs some easy fixes
The Boot Tops looked great. Got a lot of compliments. There were two things that need to be improved. First, the straps that go under the shoes were too small. Easy fix with added elastic and velcro. Second, when walking the tops fell to your shoes. There is not enough rigidity to hold them up. I fixed with an elastic band just below each knee, that I anchored with velcro to the inner panel.

Look decent but are of mediocre quality
First of all as the others have said these will NOT stand up on their own. If you don't do something to hold them up you will end up with them puddled around your ankles. Second, velcro won't do it. I used velcro with industrial strength adhesive to try and hold them up. After a brief time of walking around last week they were (you guessed it) puddled around my ankles. I kept sticking them back in place but as soon as I would walk a few steps they would slide right back down. The adhesive held to the pants, but not the boots. Third, even safety pins don't hold them very well. I tried one safety pin on each boot last night and they still sagged badly. If I wear them again I'll be going with 3 or 4 pins on each boot cover.Second, they are not easy to put on and take off. The only way I could figure out to do it is to put my shoes on first and then pull them over my shoes. They just barely fit and you can hear them starting to tear from the force. The second time I wore them one of the straps tore off. The only way I could remove them was to slip my feet out of my shoes and then remove the whole shoe/boot cover assembly together and THEN remove the boot covers from the shoes. Even then it wasn't easy.

Were as expected for me.
At the moment this is getting a five star rating from me. I read a lot of the other reviews before ordering these. A lot of people stated that the elastic and they had to do something to hold up the tops on your legs. I haven't tested them with shoes yet,. But they fit great on my legs even with pants on. The elastic straps on the feet did not break yet without shoes, though have a feeling that they will break as they were tight on my feet, will have to see how much they stretch.Update:I have a size 10 shoe. The elastic bands are very tight on them without my foot in the shoe testing it that way. Walking withe the bands on the bottom of the shoe they will probably snap. If I put the Boot Top on before I put my shoe on it works alright without them snapping, the band with the two "bronze" buttons on it can then lay in top of the shoe, but it won't cover the shoe. If I potentially just cut the elastic bands then it would probably cover them fine.Update 2:Cut off the elastic straps the two at the bottom. They fit great over the shoe now. Tried multiple different ways to get them over the shoes with the straps that came with them. Those straps were just too small to allow for the flexibility of getting them around the shoe on your foot. If they were 2-3 inches larger on the straps would of given it room to go down the sides of the shoe at the bottom and then across the bottom.
