Well made & sturdy but how about losing the plastic shrink wrap?
It's a well made ball retriever but it's value and quality are hindered by the fact that the entire unit is encased in hard plastic shrink wrap that takes 10 minutes to remove before you can use the darn thing. You have to use a razor or razor knife to cut through the stuff and the razor marks the finish all the way down the shaft so I don't know what the point is of having the protective plastic???? If the plastic wasn't on there it wouldn't be scratched all the way down the shaft as I try to remove the plastic. Makes no sense to me and for a $20 product I don't expect to spend this much time to remove the packaging.

Easy Golf Ball Retriever
Works well. After receiving it, I did not think that it would work but it seems to scoop up the golf balls very easy and the balls stay in the holder until they are released. I never had to fully extend it to retrieve golf balls but at 3/4 length it works fine, better than I expected. I did not give it a 5 star because I never give anything 5 stars unless they are exceptional but I would rate this very high, especially for the price.

Can't pick up some type of golf balls
The Retriever is pretty sturdy the only thing is that I find out not all the golf balls can be picked up by it.I have tried different brands and type at home. The one that it had trouble is the more shiny glittering type and some other none "traditional" coating golf balls. Due to different coating that you can't even force the Retriever to bite. I try to jammed the ball into it and it just slipped out.

It's an "OK" retriever - for standing water that is.
As the buyer, there are two styles of ball retrievers for sale by this vendor. I purchased the style with a hinged cup on the end. Besides the hinge, the other "feature" of this retriever is a little extension that presumably holds the golf ball in the cup once the ball is secured. I found both the hinge AND the extension to be frustratingly problematic. I eventually cut the extension off and put a bolt through the hinge thus making the retriever a solid straight retriever. The other issue I continue to have with this retriever involves the locking mechanisms in between the extensions. They don't release or lock with any consistency. In all fairness, the features of this retriever are better suited to slow-moving or standing water applications and not to moderate to fast running water.I am pleased with the modified version I have created. But the next time I need a ball retriever I'll probably be looking for a different one.

Cheap, poor design, hard to extend (keep getting stuck), but once you get the hang of their hang ups... it works.
Kinda cheap and poorly made. The extensions keep getting locked up and the plastic couplers that are supposed to help you twist the extensions apart/together have pretty much all come undone. One of these we bought they weren't even installed correctly. At any rate, once you work around how cheap and poorly designed they are, they will pick up balls from a water hazard or snake habitat you don't want to wander into.

Reaches a long way!
I wanted a grabber to reach farther and that is what I got! The one I purchased has a 15 ft reach and that is enough. When fully extended it takes 2 hands to keep it steady. This grabber works better in water than in brush as the brush does not always let the closing clip lower into place and you have to try several times to make it pick up the ball. If you are a below average golfer you need one in your bag as it will pay for itself in "found" balls.

LOW QUALITY
The plastic parts at the end of each section took off shortly after use. Capture the ball well.

Be careful of this model....
First of all, I have used this type of retriever for years. So I know how it works; and it works very well if you know how to use the cup. Cover the ball, twist upright and lift. However, this one had a problem. When I extended the rods, at least two segments locked into the extended position and would not budge. You are supposed to be able to easily twist to lock the extended segment in place and then easily twist to unlock it. This one would not unlock. Eventually, after four or five minutes of patient work, I was able to get them to unlock; which allowed me to collapse those segments. However, the fact that they locked is still potentially a problem on the golf course. The last thing you want out on the course is to be struggling to get the retriever back into your bag. You have already held up your playing partners by retrieving the ball; and they will not want to watch you endlessly trying to get it to collapse. The seller acknowledged that they occasionally have problems with this aspect of the retriever; although they said it did not happen often. Well, I did not want to take the chance. So I returned it. The outcome was not wholly satisfactory in that I had to pay for the return shipping, which was half the cost of the retriever. Bottom line, only take a chance on this if they will pay to have you ship back a defective one.
