FlightAware Pro Stick Plus ADS-B USB Receiver with Built-in Filter + MicroSD

I bought two of these and I'm a ADS-B addict now. It is easy to setup with a Raspberry Pi 3B I highly recommend installing the minimal Raspian installation and then install a lite GUI like LXDE...sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends xinitsudo apt-get install lxde-core lxappearanceAfter 20minutes or so you have your gui installed and then set it to boot to command line in raspi-config. Why even use a gui you might ask? You need a browser to register your receiver on FlightAware. (Nope! The text and command-line browsers didn't work for me.) With the GUI I kept loosing MLAT locations (plane tracking stuff). With the GUI off it ran 28days straight and going strong without missing a beat. Lets face it... an RPI3 is not a fast computer and it needs all the help it can get trying to track 40+ planes in the sky. Pretty fun to watch and addicting. If you fly, travel or are picking up a friend from the airport this is great as you get a free Enterprise account when you register your FlightAware receiver. (An $80 value per month I believe). When you are logged in from home, cell phone or whatever you can track flights, weather, view pictures of the planes and other great information. I highly recommend for that geek in your life and it's cheap too.

This little dongle works great, especially with the 1090 MHz external antenna available here on Amazon. I'm picking up around a 200 mile range with the antenna mounted on the chimney of my two story house at around 600 feet above sea level. Even though this has a built in filter I've added the external one as well. I have this in my ham shack and keying up my mic would wipe out all the planes on my flight aware program, the additional filter resolved this issue.

Worked perfectly first time with RASPBERRY PI 3 model B+. This system rocks. I bought the long antenna and mounted all in attic in plastic box. When your grandkids ask you where the plane they see flying over the house is headed you can now answer that question.

Works good, enjoyable and fun to monitor.
