Kingston DataTraveler Max - 256GB - USB 3.2 Gen 2 - Flash Drive Type-C - Up to 1,000MB/s Read, 900MB/s Write

Excellent USB drive - very fast indeed...BUT, spoiled by the nastiest, cheap enclosure possible to design. A 10 year old could have done better.

This is a very good USB if you have a lot of photos or file and you just want quick transfer speeds this USB does the job it is easy to use all while being really small the security is good as well meaning you can protect what’s important but it does get a little hot when transferring a lot of files.

The speed are indeed as advertised (~1000MB/s Read and ~900MB/s Write) used through Thunderbolt4 connector (which is backward compatible to USB 3.2 Gen2, that was advertised on the product's page) — that's highly satisfying! Of course, the storage is again enormous for its money. Not particularly easy to use, though, mainly because my type C ports are located at the back of the laptop, and the drive in itself is long. On the other side, as noted in numerous reviews on amazon, which also resonated with my personal experience of use — the build is awful, like it seems an unreliable piece of plastic, especially with this sliding to-and-fro feature, that can break anytime even with light use. This is what happens with a lot of customers: the drive breaks after 1 year or 1.5 years of infrequent use. Also, it becomes really warm during use, as said by other users, too. So, generally this is exactly what I needed: cheep and cheerful device with high speeds and huge storage, although not the best build. Still, for future I will be investing more money in reliability of a flash drive with my vital data (never use only one storage for all your important information).

I've been looking for a very small and light external storage option to complement the iPhone 15 Pro video recording. A lot of SSDs whilst relatively small are still a significant weight and size compared to the phone. So in that respect this fits the bill. My concern was the continuous write speed which many "thumb" size drives suffer from. The Blackmagic speed test on this device gives a sustained write (and read) speed of around 700 MB/s which is excellent. In a real life test so far I've managed to record over an hour of Prores LT 4k in the iPhone Blackmagic camera app without a problem. So very pleased with that and the weight/size. Hopefully that will continue.

This is a premium product, made of high quality and very rigid polycarbonate. I use it to backup photos and videos from a smartphone to save space on the device. When connected to my laptop usb 3.2 port the speeds were as advertised. My galaxy ultra phone is ama to copy 30GB of media in under a minute which is amazing, could not have asked for more. Now this usb sick will be in my back when I'm travelling with no worry of taking too much footage on the phone or a camera.

Cost is high, but you get what you pay for - one of, if not the, fastest sticks currently on the market. Under general (NTFS) use I'm often getting around 500+Mbps write speed - far faster than any of my other external drives/sticks. Note, the speed you get depends (as expected) on the file format used - Fat32, exFat, or NTFS - best speed is on NTFS but quite a few devices won't read that. It also depends on file sizes, etc., being copied. Hence you can only expect the max speed in extremely specific circumstances - 500+ is very good for one of this one's quoted (max) speed & I was happy enough with it to buy a second.

Read speeds are great - close to that advertised. Write speeds are fine for about 6Gb or so. If you attempt to copy any more than that speeds plummet to below what you’d expect from even a usb 2.0 device. The first drive just completely stoped at 6Gb and became unresponsive. Tried reformatting it and using in various Windows and Mac computers but same result. The replacement drive was really variable in speed as another reviewer stated. Went with the Samsung Extreme SSD instead - really consistent transfer speeds regardless of file size. Real shame as it’s a great form factor and read speeds great.

I have an HP laptop with 2 x USB C sockets. This is the first USB C device I have bought which is this wide - I cannot plug this device into my laptop and any other USB C device at the same time. I will need to get a USB C hub or similar to allow me to use this at the same time as other USB C kit. This is the first time I have ever had an issue with any Kingston kit - normally I find their stuff great.

They delivered surprisingly reliable and fast transfer speeds when used with various major computer brands and operating systems—even when daisy-chained with adapters for other USB types. They have proven more reliable than most competitors.
