    works great for wireless N

*by P***O on Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2010*

My stock wireless card that came with my Dell Inspiron e1405 laptop started acting a bit spotty. It took a while to connect, and otherwise was just not consistent enough for my tastes. I have a wireless n capable router, but my card, and computer, was not set up to receive that signal. I decided enough was enough and ordered a

. In the reviews of that product, S. Lionel very helpfully suggested this wifi antenna.I had never dealt with a laptop wireless network card, so everything was a bit mysterious to me. Fortunately, looking up the service manual for my computer showed me the right steps to get the card installed. What wasn't mentioned in that manual was that to install a wireless in card, a third antenna is necessary. Some computers have the third antenna wire, even if it is not connected. Mine didn't. So, I followed S. Lionel's advice and ordered this Tyco product from a-plus-tech.They sent the antenna very promptly and with it some very helpful and detailed information about installing it. Obviously each computer is different, but the general guidelines helped me know what would work best. I did have to take my computer apart, but this isn't too difficult. I got the antenna snaked up to behind the top of my lcd screen, connected the wire to the third connection on my new card, and once I got the computer back together and turned on I was connected to my wireless at 130 Mbps, a great improvement from the 54 Mbps. This package comes with two antennas, one with a slightly longer cable than the other one. They are bound together in a few spots, but since I only needed one I used a razor to separate the wires more fully. Now I have a backup, or one that I can use to help upgrade a different laptop.Overall, this is a really great product. It works as it should and it provides a significant boost to how my computer works.Totally recommend it.

Very Good Build Quality, Poor Reception

*by C***. on Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2012*

The reason why I rate this 4/5 is because the reception is horrible when Installed on an Intel WiFi Link 5300 after upgrading the WiFi card on my Dell Inspiron 1545. The connection where you connect the antenna (u.Fl) is kind of loose. I also tested the range of this using a software, both installed behind my LCD and just plain standing in the air. The db is around -69 while the built in antennas on my dell is around -35 db. I also tried swapping the antennas with the same result. Overall though, I love the build quaity and design. The adhesive that comes with it wasn't too sticky so I used some scotch tape and taped it behind my LCD monitor in my laptop.Besides the weak reception and loose u.Fl connection, it does what it's suppose to do. (I wish they would show some info on how powerful this antenna is.

Great companion for mini PCIe wireless card in a laptop

*by D***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2012*

Got this to go with an Intel Ultimate N 633ANHMW IEEE 802.11n (draft) Wi-Fi Adapter to upgrade the wireless of my sons HP Pavilion dv6-2150us. What a great upgrade! Our router is a 150mbps router and sits in my basement office, and after installing the card and the 3rd antenna (we used the two already in his laptop from the old 54 mbps card, and one of the two from this Tyco antenna), his wireless signal runs consistently at 120-150 mbps from his 2nd story room. Don't know how much faster he can go since he's limited by our 150 mbps router speed right now, but we have no reason to believe that he can't get close to maxing out the 450 mbps capability of the Intel mini-PCIe wireless card if he connects through a 450 mbps wireless router or access point. We used an Exacto knife to split out this antenna into two strands, and then mounted one of them as the 3rd antenna under the LCD screen of his laptop where the other two antenna were mounted (that was HARD, getting the screen assembly disassembled...we were sure we were breaking something taking off the screen bezel...yikes...but, ultimately, it was well worth it...everything reassembled fine and it all worked after we got it back together).
