Does not cook food evenly. Cold spots throughout cooking vessel.
I previously owned a Sansaire 1100 watt Sous-Vide Immersion Circulator, and my wife and I loved that machine. After three years of heavy use (used 3 or 4 times per week), it died. I tried to save a few bucks when replacing it, so I bought this item by Kitchen Gizmo since it is about half the price of the Sansaire.Upon arrival, the machine looked quite nice and was easier to clean than the other machine. However, it had several flaws which made it either frustrating to use, or plain nonfunctional. - The dial for adjusting the temperature or timer was very stiff and difficult to turn. - The circulator does not circulate the water evenly throughout the cooking vessel which leaves cold spots in our cooking vessel. This has the unfortunate effect of not cooking our food completely. On multiple occasions, half of the chicken breasts I put in were raw when the cooking time had finished. Now, since I always finish food in the pan or on the grill after sous-vide, this didn't cause any food-safety issues. But if I were slow-cooking something like a brisket or pork butt, I'd be really disappointed. For me, the two flaws in this device make it unusable as a Sous-Vide Circulator. I am returning this one and I will be replacing it with another manufacturer's product.

Simple, elegant and easy cleanup
I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I'd been missing out on a way to cook that saves time on cleanup and allows me to make things that I've never been able to make before. As to the latter, it could be just because the cookbook had easy instructions or simple recipes but no matter the case, my family and I love it.This type of cooking has evidently been out a while and I missed the initial "bus". Well, I got in gear and after looking at all the brands (there were a ton), I'm glad I went with this one because I've had no issues. The only issues I had concerned whether or not to use ZipLock style bags or cooking bags. There are 2 schools of thought on this and I recommend you research this for yourself as I will not dare promote the use of one type over the other. Some say the storage bags can leech out bad stuff but others say there is no concerns. Either way, you absolutely need to get some cooking bags or plastic food storage bags to use.Super simple: get recipe, put meat or veggies in bag, fill water in pot (at least up to the min line or you'll get an error), set time and temp...I love the timer, temp and controls in general. I also love the clamp. It works well and lends itself a versatility concerning a lot of different pots it will work with. The only thing that I wished they had included was a sample cooking bag or maybe a recommendation because that's been the biggest holdup. I understand why they didn't but not a big deal overall.Chicken and steak came out very well. I really really want to do creme brûlée but am not sure I've got the patience. If I do take that leap, I'll be sure to update the pics. Nice to know I've got that option, however.

Great product - not perfect
First of all, it's worth mentioning that the item showed a few little scratches on the display. The unit was fully working but didn't look 100% new.I expected the Kitchen Gizmo to maintain the temperature without too much fluctuation. Maybe that's the normal behavior, but it was regularly increasing and decreasing the temperature within 2 degrees celsius. The controls are simple to use and it has a quality feel to it.I cooked some sausages in there and the results were fantastic. I would have to test another brand to see if there is any improvement but overall I am satisfied with the product.I did find a typo on the box that the circulator came in. That's a detail but it didn't seem too professional to me.

Ordered 3 times always arrives with a broken clamp
I've ordered this product 3 times and it always arrives with a broken clamp. Once or twice might be bad luck, but three times shows tells me it is a manufacturing defect. Don't waste your time buying this product.

About a month and it doesn't work any more.
I bought this about a month ago. I've used it twice a week -- maybe 8 times total -- and while doing a roast last week it failed. The digital display went all wonky, the buttons stopped responding, and it stopped heating and circulating so my roast was ruined.I unplugged it and let it sit for a while, then plugged it back in. The display looks like normal numbers now, but the button to change the timer doesn't respond, so you cannot turn it on. So, 8 or 9 uses -- call it $10 per use to cook my dinner. Not a very good bargain. When it did work, the circulation was good and it brought water to temp quickly enough. But it still has some design flaws. - There's a plastic shroud on the bottom that shields the impeller and it absolutely will not lock in to place. So, when you pull the unit out of the water you pretty much always leave that clear plastic piece behind in the water. - The buttons never responded nicely even when it was new. You'd have to press and hold them a random amount of time, and sometimes they'd save up a couple of presses so it would do something like switch from F to C rather than just turning on like you hoped. There are only three functions for the buttons! You can't figure out how to poll them at a reasonable interval and give valid feedback? Spinning the wheel seems to make the temperature adjust right away, so I know it's possible.Honestly, I bought this over a competitor that used a cell phone app for control because that competitor requires registration. I thought it would be a good idea to just get an item I can control right there on the unit itself. You know, so it'll last me a long time and I never have to worry about some company bricking my heater because they go out of business or require an internet connection to turn the thing on and off. Turns out two buttons and a dial wasn't the simple, long lasting solution I'd hoped for.

Pales in comparison to competitive product; broke after two months
I had used a friends Anova Sous Vide immersion heater in the past and liked it very much. I decided to buy Kitchen Gizmo because it was $50 cheaper than the Anova a appeared to have the same utility. The Kitchen Gizmo does what it is supposed to do, but the user interface is poorly designed and non-intuitive. I found myself needing to refer to the users guide to remember how to operate it. Also, the mechanical adjustment wheel is difficult to turn and a bit frustrating to use.I wish I had spent the extra $50 and purchased the Anova! Two weeks after writing the review above, I have discovered that the plastic shield around the impeller no longer stays attached to the main unit. I have requested a refund but the seller has stated that the system must be in "unopened condition" to qualify for a refund.Update: I have had my Kitchen Gizmo for less than two months (used it about 6 times) and it appears that the impeller has stopped working. I will be contacting the vendor regarding warranty replacement.
