Just used it on my Gitzo
My Gitzo included a tube of the grease. It is a necessary evil, I guess. While it replaces the original grease applied to the locking threads, once any little bit of sand gets into it, you have to use soap and warm water to wash it off, then reapply fresh.From the appearance, smell, and feel, I'm pretty sure this is close to simple petroleum jelly, but I think I'd probably use lithium grease, which we keep on hand for lubricating our garage door screw.

Tripod grease
Just grease, does what it should: lubricates moving tripod parts. Nothing more, nothing less..

Quality product
Pricey for what you get but I wanted to be absolutely sure I was doing the right thing with my tripod re-greasing. Only do this once or twice a year so it’s not that expensive if you’ve invested in a quality tripod and want to maintain it. One tube was enough for a Gitzo systematic 5 series 4SL
