Huge book with 700+ Pages and plenty of Bedtime Fairy tale stories. Adult supervision is required for some of the reading as the content can be scary (second Story talks about the Virgin Mary stealing a baby from a girl who lied in Heaven and was sent back to Earth as punishment). Maybe more suitable for kids 13/14 years old and above to read independently. Beautiful hardback finish with shiny gold lettering and a golden shine on the edge of the pages. The text and lettering size is perfect, very neat and easy to read. The first few stories are short at 2-3 pages, but I'm not sure if they get longer later. Makes for perfect bedtime reading at around 5-7 minutes per story with your children. Highly recommend as a story collection to anyone looking for good bedtime reading with their children.

This is a lovely book. First and most importantly (because other reviewers appear not to have mentioned this), there are marvellous, black and white traditional woodcut illustrations, not to every story (there are 210 stories), but there are seven in the first hundred pages (for the first 19 stories). The paper is lovely : thin but fine (the only drawback being that the print from the other side is visible due to the translucency). It has been a good while since I have so much enjoyed actually handling a book and turning the pages. These are edged in gold, and titles are in a rococo font edged with flowers. The prose is quite readable, although old-fashioned, presumably because the stories are faithfully translated from the original nineteenth century German rather than adapted in any way. I have just read the first story, where the very spoilt princess promised a frog who had helped her that she would allow him to be her companion, but when he insisted on her keeping her promise, she flung him hard against the wall, whence he suddenly turned into a handsome prince. So despite being so odious, she still got her prince in his shining carriage with six white horses, whereas I feel that she should have been dealt her comeuppance for being so mean and faithless !!!

Ots a very nice book, and has loads of stories. Very nicely finished and looks well on any book shelf. But they are the old original stories, so writen in old English and so hard to read and understand. So kids are not as keen on me reading from it. But I would still recommend it as it is nice and some interesting old fairytale stories in it you will never have seen.

Classic tales for my grandson to read and realise that Disney was not the first !

As a reader this is a complete STEAL. I love fairy tales and having the original tales is so comforting. I have had this for a few weeks now and I love it I am nearly done and rate it 5 stars. It's so nostalgic reading these stories. Really brings back good memories. The gold painted side is smooth and adds a fantastical finish. The hardcover reminds me of an older time book and overall it has a whimsical air to it. One hundred percent recommend.

This was a gift for my mom. She loved it. Came sealed and really quickly.

Me agradó bastante, visualmente es hermoso. La calidad del material es adecuada. Los detalles dorados de las paginas es muy bonito

À la base, le livre est très beau. Jolis dessins, dorure y compris sur la tranche, illustrations à l’intérieur,… Mais le livre est expédié depuis… l’Inde! Et en plus sans aucune autre protection qu’on sac en plastique pour lequel il a fallu un travail d’orfèvre pour l’ouvrir sans abîmer (plus) le livre. Tous les coins sont écrasés, les couvertures ont des coups, des déchirures, et même les pages ont été froissées… bref, je ne recommande pas de l’acheter, en tout cas pas auprès de ce vendeur.
