Great theory series!
As a piano teacher, I love the Snell series. If you want to learn the basics of music theory, then stick with the series and by the time you get through book ten, you will be able to pass first year college music theory no problem or test out of it.

Excelent for kuds
This book is very helpful in understanding piano theory. It is well organized and my 8 yo was able to read and understand most of it on his own. It is very useful for CM test prep.

Easy to read, well-paced program to learn!
Wish I had this book series when I started piano! Might still be playing! My 12-year-old is doing well, I can follow along a lot of the time, quite a plus for me...

Excellent book for the serious music theory student
This piano theory book includes 20 units, which involve:1. meter, 2. key signatures 3. major scales 4. minor scales: major and relative minor; three forms of minor, and parallel minor 5. Intervals of the scale: major, perfect, diminished, and augmented 6. triads: major, minor, diminished, and augmented 7. scale degrees and triads of the scale, 8. primary and secondary triads, 9. dominant seventh chords, 10. cadences: authentic, plagal, and half 11., primary chord progression, 12. harmonizing and transposing, 13. ornaments: trill and mordent 14. texture in music: polyphonic and homophonic 15. melodic phrase structure: repetition, imitation, sequence, and motive 16. form in music, 17. signs and terms,18. the four periods of music history, 19. sight reading, and 20. ear training. At the end, there is a review test that incorporates everything from the 20 units.Piano teachers usually assign one unit per week, so this book will take a good 20 weeks to complete. Older students who are more studious can complete two units per week in order to finish faster. Each theory book builds on the previous theory books and there is some repetition from the previous books that can feel a bit tedious to some younger student, but these are solid lessons that really get music theory deeply ingrained into the piano student. It's not a "fun" book as there are no pictures of cute cartoons for younger children that want to be entertained, but it's a serious book for those that really want to learn theory. I highly recommend this series for all students who are serious about music lesson.
