Review: Works as advertised. - I’ve used compression socks since 1970 due to impaired circulation in my legs the result of wounds. As I’ve aged and arthritis has impaired my hands, it’s getting more difficult to get the socks on straight. I never heard of this device until I saw it on a YouTube video about rehabilitation after a total shoulder replacement, and I realized I’d need to put on knee length compression socks (20-30 Hg) after surgery with only one arm. There are lots of ways to do it, a life mate to help if you have one, using plastic grocery store bags and so forth. Notwithstanding that, I bought this device because it looked like it worked on the YouTube video. It works exactly as shown and as advertised. You load the socks on the device, insert your foot into the foot-part of the sock, hold the sock with one hand on the back part of the frame, then step down to the floor. The cage threads the calf-part of the sock over the calf. Even now that I have use of two arms and two hands, I still use it because it helps get the sock on straight. If you thread the sock on the device straight, the sock will go on straight. If you think you want one of these, I suggest that you review the videos available on YouTube before purchase. If it doesn’t work for you, you can always send it back. I kept mine. I think this device would be particularly useful for caregivers who regularly must help patients put on high compression socks. This greatly simplifies the process.
Review: With This Stocking Donner, I No Longer Avoid Wearing Compression Stockings Because They're Too Hard to Put On - This is an excellent piece of equipment for anyone who has mobility issues or weakness in the hands and needs to wear compression stockings. Not only does it help to stretch the stocking so that you can insert your foot, but it helps to pull the stocking up your leg. I've used it to stretch 15-20 compression stockings that I couldn't possibly stretch enough to insert my foot without this donner. If you have back or joint issues that make it difficult to reach your toes, this is a lifesaver. You just need to stretch the open stocking over the top of the curved, rigid metal, slide it down the sides, put your toes in and push your foot to the floor and then pull up on the handles to pull the stocking up your leg. I bought the donning gloves, but don't even need them with this equipment. I've become dependent on this to easily put on my compression stockings. It can't be compacted, but I'd readily make room for it in my suitcase if traveling. I would most definitely recommend this item.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it collapseble to put in a suitcase?**
A: No it is not. It's quite bulky, but light-weight. If I took it with me in a suitcase, I would stuff clothing in and around it to save space.

**Q: is this helpful to also remove stockings?**
A: Y E S this can and it is easy to remove your stockings, you flip the entire unit upside down and place the curve end behind your calf. Pull up some fabric to get it started then start pushing downward but make sure the stocking is totally over the edges of the curved support. The other trick next is to make sure your foot is 90 degrees and NOT pointed. You only point foot while putting on stockings. My stockings are strictly medical 30/40'S Knee high, open toe. I'm 70 years old, extremely bad back I mean extreme. Right wrist was fused in 1996 and is now totally at it's end again. My first experience with stocking in April 2018, I did not even know about Donner devices. I manage to rough pull them for about and month so I quit wearing compressions. I just can't....even using the paper sock thingy was unbearable and for me and trying to pull them off was the end of me. All the money in the world wouldn't allow me any further torment. So over 2 years later I went back to my Vascular surgeon and said this is crap. He mentioned they make Donner devices. Anyways I need I'm here to tell you this is a life saver for me as this works great but from reading this message thread and instructions from Jobst Corporation I'm trying to figure out why in the world the company hasn't instructed people on how also us the device to remove the stockings. Maybe liability issues but the way I see this is simple if I put stockings on I better have a way to take them off or I won't ware the stockings. My Calf size is 14.5", I do have a wide feet.

Sincerely, Bob

**Q: I have a large cafe, can I get some measurements?**
A: Yes. My calf measures 15 inches at its largest. The Donner's measurement, the circumference, seems to be about 14 inches. It is difficult to measure since it is open for only part of its "circle". The front of it is open to let the foot and leg in. Since the calf tissue is not bone, it does give, and I can pull the Donner up my leg to my knee, where it stops at the bone. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarification on anything I said.

**Q: How do I use stocking donner with custom-made (30-40 mm/Hg)stocking?**
A: I am not sure I understand the question, since I am not familiar with the stocking described. I find the donner is an aid at best and not truly as described. After practice and developing a technique, it does help but limited. Sorry I can not give a more definitive answer but I found it does not work as smoothly as described and requires some experimentation and personal technique.

### ⭐ Well built device but hard to keep stocking pulled down over the guide
*by L***J on March 31, 2021*

I saw the video on how to use this simple wire frame device. The problem I ran into is that when i guided and pulled down the sock over the frame. The elasticity of the sock keep the sock going up. It became a challenge to keep the sock on the frame. It took more effort than to put the sock on by hand. But I did find a easier way to put my open toed compression socks on that might work for some. First I put a little hand cream on the bottom of my feet and rubbed it in good till it was dry. Then I took a clear sandwhich baggie and put it over my toes (smallest sandwhich bag you can get at any grocery store). I pulled my compression sock inside out just above the heal portion. I pulled it over the baggie and it slides on fairly well not perfect but not a fight. Then after I got my sock on I rolled back the toe portion of the sock back a little and removed the baggie and refitted the bottom of my sock. If you have leg mobility this might work out for you too.
