Don't expect miracles.
in our case, there was a restrictive flow issue which caused the backup water pressure to be strong enouth to push these washers up and out of the drain pipe, creating a lot of water. Once we had normal water flow, the washers did there job.

Does not fit standard 2" PVC drain pipe
I bought this to make a tight fit of my washer's drain hose to an overhead trap made of 2" PVC pipe.I bought this to prevent the sudsy overflow that sometimes occurs if too much detergent was used. The dimensions on the photos say that the O.D. of these plugs is 1.97".In reality, the O.D. is more like 1.8" at the outermost edges of the ribs, a loose and sloppy fit.I ended up returning these and buying a 2" spigot x 1" PVC schedule 40 reducer bushing which connects to the pipe with a coupler fitting and a tight, sliding fit without using glue.https://www.amazon.com/Charlotte-Pipe-Reducing-Bushing-Schedule/dp/B000R2YC28/https://www.amazon.com/CHARLOTTE-PIPE-COUPLING-PRESSURE-Piece/dp/B000H5WAD8/

Great fix for my problem with overflowing washer
Can't buy this at my local hardware stores, shopped all three. This was the solution for the back flow in the wall for my clothes washing machine. I was chained to the load to push the pause at just the right time 7 times per load to get the drain to take away all the water. This was enough to seal between the hose and the wall and it all goes down now. PRAISE GOD!
