Constructed of cheap materials
I bought this mainly to help me heal my Norfolk Pine, which is dropping fronds at an alarming rate. The product arrived with one of the two metal rods dented and slightly bent. But I thought I'd try it out anyways. I followed the directions, which say to press it firmly and deeply into the plant's root system. I did that-- pressing it slowly into the 24" diameter, 16 " high pot. that holds my 48 " high Norfolk Pine. I tested the ph, moisture and light a few times, in different places in the pot. I have no other meters by which to judge the accuracy of the readings. But the soil reading showed that the soil was highly alkaline--which Norfolk Pines DONT like. So that may be my problem. I sprinkled on some rhododendron food by Schultz. But did not water it as the moisture reading was still on high side. When I got done I went to wash the dirt off the device and saw that it was even more bent than at first! I had used it as directed; had been gentle; and still it was more bent than before. I guess you get what you pay for. I also found the small numbers on the face of the device was hard to read. I had to get down on the floor and peer closely at the readings -- a challenge at 77, or getting up is anyways. The readings go back to 0 when you pull it out of the soil. So the manufacturer needs to either make the face of the device much larger, with larger numbers and letters, or they need to figure out a way to freeze the reading, so you can pull it out from a standing position get the readings. I'm going to return it because it feels like one of the legs is so fragile, it will break very soon.

Seems to work ok
I’m not sure about it. I don’t know if it really works or not. I need to try it more

Mostly doesn't work...
It said that my HEAVILY alkaline (limestone) soil was pH neutral. Yeah, no.

It broke after third use.
It didn't work accurately after 3rd use so I took off the cover it was the measuring paper thing all I had to do was glue it down and now it works perfect.

Works well for moisture in soil, not for PH which is why I purchased it.
Works well for moisture in soil, not for PH which is why I purchased it. Disappointed.

Very economical
I needed one of these for quick assessment. Moisture it seems spot on. It’s great for house plants and my outside pots. Light, seems accurate enough for indoor plants. I have some windows that block some uv rays and the gauge seems to be accurate. It’s certainly close enough that I can tell a difference between windows. And I do know which windows are which. The pH meter seems accurate enough for my plants. I’ve been stabbing it into the dirt all around my yard- wiping the probes clean between stabs. There are areas I knew were too acidic and I’m trying to correct that. So far it’s letting me know. The gauge reads dead center with bottled water, about 5 for vinegar and above 8 with alkaline water. If I need a more accurate reading I can do a chemical test. This is saving me money. I gave it 4 stars because I don’t know how long it will last. I’m hoping the entire growing season. If it does I’ll give it a 5.

Solid with an exception
This item is just what I needed to make some moisture and ph checks within my yard. However, with one exception. It’s not durable at all. One of the probe tips broke after one week.
