This a wonderful window fan. It is self contained and weatherproof and as such it it remains in my window for the spring-summer-fall duration. It can pull air out of your room or bring air in and has a temperature control for when things cool off at night. The remote works well and the unit moves a large volume of air quietly. I have had this unit for just over three years and found it utterly reliable. The complete lit comes with solid foam inserts for sealing to a window. In my case they had included two 1" inserts and it fir a 27" window perfectly. Install takes a few minutes. Highly recommended.

I've had my unit running almost continually during summer months (May-Sept) for two years. Its still reasonably quiet and hasn't started making an high pitch 'wine' sounds. Some recommendations. Use metallic tape on the outside to reflect the suns heat. Continuous hot sun on black doesn't exactly have a 'cooling' effect. My window screen is in the way when this is installed. I got around this by buying a small roll of replacement window screen, creating one that fits the device, and its worked well. If you have access to plastic corrugate sheets, it works really well for creating an 'adapter' thats more of an air-tight fit between the edges of the unit and the window. The remote is cheap but works well enough if you want to avoid walking over to control the flow.

Recommended by Wirecutter. Has a handy remote, fan can either blow air in or out. I only use the remote to control the fan because otherwise the temperature setting tends to activate and it won't turn on unless it is above a certain temperature.

I was apprehensive of buying this item due to some reviews that related supposedly complex installation with foam blocks instead of the usual accordion pleats. I only use this at night to bring in cool fresh air and I didn't want to have to be wrestling with installation / removal on a daily basis. So glad I did not listen to the critics. Installation and removal are easy as pie put the unit in the window one block on each side close the window takes 20 seconds. I used to use the traditional dual window fan unit which was aggravatingly noisy and even on low provided too much of a Breeze across my bed. This unit is perfect. I can't even hear it on low and it actually provides more airflow than I want. The remote control is another nice feature allowing me to adjust how much air flow I desire while I'm in bed. The only thing that could be better is if the manufacturer had louvered ventilation exhaust so that I could angle it up over my bed instead of it blowing directly on me. Aside from that this Vornado transom is perfect. Have to say I've been impressed by every Vornado product I've ever bought especially their small efficient space heaters. Great company with great products!

I mis-read the width, this unit is wider than my window by two inches, as I measured the wrong area. Anyhow, using the the included foam blocks to fill under the unit it all fit perfectly to fill the gaps. The unit simply sits on the window ledge, flush to the surface of the window opening. A few small bungee cords attached to scews (picture frame anchors) it easily holds the unit in place with no movement. With this placement, I can even pull the whole unit sightly forward and close the window behind it with the bungee cords. It Works fine.. its quiet, but not silent. I've had quieter fans. Air flow is good, but Static pressure seems to be low, anything blocking airflow like a closed door greatly drops its ability to move air. Crossflow fans like this are effecient, but lack a strong ability to push air through restrictions or into closed rooms.
