Star Trek: The Next Generation Tarot Deck and Guidebook

They look fantastic
I don’t know anything about Tarot. I mostly bought them to see what characters where which suit (arcana?) and number. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened them to find that they look and feel great. The designs are nice as well and it’s packed with a nice little book to teach you how to use them. Very happy I got them.

Lovely Trek deck!
I expected it to be just a cheap gimmick but it’s actually fantastic quality. The artwork is top notch, the choices for the cards are thoughtful, the book is well done, and the cards are good quality.I’m actually really surprised at the couple of reviews complaining about the card quality — these are of much better quality than other novelty decks I’ve bought. My nicer decks were a lot more expensive and definitely not novelty.Aside from the court cards, the minor arcana are fairly basic, just increasing the number of the suit item per card. But they’re nicely done. I also enjoy that each is themed to Star Trek instead of keeping the traditional arcana. My only quality complaint: The glue binding the book is too weak and started to separate at the cover. It’s a shame because the book itself is otherwise of good quality, on nice glossy paper. And it’s quite enjoyable to read through. It isn’t likely to fall apart entirely, though, based on the way it’s bound, so I don’t consider it a dealbreaker.Overall, I’m very happy with this deck and plan to use it often.

A NICELY PRODUCED specialty deck!!
This is a well produced specialty deck that will appeal to you if you are a Super Fan of the show. The creators have a good understanding of the Tarot, as well as a in depth comprehension of the series and all the characters. This was not slapped together, it is very well thought out. The suits are a bit irritating and will take some getting used to to translate Pentacles into Latinum, for example. The suits are Latinum, Cloaks, Starships, and BatLeths. My single complaint is that it is easy to shuffle but the cards all stick together. So you need to cut the cards decisively and select one from a chunk. They do not flow very well. I have about160 decks, and I read cards daily. I shuffle quickly and I love it when cards fly out. That will not happen with this deck. It seems to stay clumpy. That said, I am very happy with this purchase. The illustrations are accurate, the booklet is very helpful. You will probably need to read each definition. Reversal definitions are included. A very very nice choice to give as a gift. We'll done!

Out of this world!
I had my doubts about this tarot deck. You don't hear much about spirituality in Star Trek TNG except in other cultures and not with the Federation. It is a well thought out deck with a big book to help comprehend the cards. (Yes, they explain about the new minor arcana and what it's normal counterpart is so you're not lost.) True, no actual read from the cards themselves except by said characters. A knowledge of Star Trek TNG required - to me at least.

Does Not Go Boldly
I'd classify this as a fun addition to a Star Trek collector's hoard and little else. Suffers from many of the same problems other Insight Editions licensed theme decks suffer, namely that it's a pip deck that does little creatively to make the pips interesting in any way, it swaps out the traditional suits to crowbar in a genre-specific gimmick that isn't well thought-out, and it thinks it can justify all this by packaging it with a well-produced guidebook and a nicer box with an extraction ribbon in it. Even compared to that, this deck is worse. The arcana and courts are lifeless portraits, and the cards just don't feel great, not to mention they start to warp (hah!) after only a few shuffles. Not a fan of this deck.

Cheap and ugly
The book is bound with pages in the wrong order; the minors are ugly pips with no artistic merit (a fact which is withheld by the publisher in their marketing); the suits make little sense; the frame of every card is that same grey and meaningless window; almost all majors and courts have no contextual illustrated backdrop; the book falls apart upon opening it too much; and the card stock is unusable for genuine tarot. Not a single scene is illustrated; it is all passport-photo head-and-torso style, with the exception of the high priestess. If you buy this, you may wish to consider it a majors-only deck, as there is little artistic merit or RWS usability. Simon & Schuster is the publisher, a subsidiary of Paramount. Paramount owns the Star Trek franchise, which means that there was no rush to produce this deck, no limited terms around intellectual property, and the artists should have been permitted time and access to complete a comprehensive artistic and usable product. Instead, S&S has produced something cheap and lurid, unworkable to the tarot reader and deflating for the fans. The fact that S&S/Paramount have omitted the boring and meaningless pip cards from their marketing materials is deliberately misleading. It's another small, pathetically sad example of how franchising and property rights impede genuine enjoyment of culture.
