I really liked this overview
I really liked this overview, I don't agree with all the theology in it but the Author did a great job being fair and presenting much of the material in its historical context instead of treating it like the prescriptive truth. If you are in search of a brief yet valuable overview of western Christian theology this book will do very well for that. The writing is very easily accessible. Although some of the topics covered are inherently challenging, the author does as good a job as possible in outlining everything to give the reader the best opportunity to grasp the real root of the theological debates that formed Christian theology. There is a companion book "The Christina Theological Reader." which quotes original sources. This book goes great with it, however, it's not annoying in that it constantly references the Reader. I would recommend his Reader also. It helps fill the ideas out in the author's own words, which is invaluable.

Excellent textbook on theology
I found this book easy to read, especially compared to some others I have read. It puts theology in terms that are easy to understand. I like the systematic approach compared to an historical approach.

My complaint is with the lack of pagination in the Kindle edition.
I am a missionary professor in Brazil, and I purchase Kindle editions to avoid lugging around hundreds of books. I purchase Kindles editions and then give the paper editions to my students. I purchased the Kindle edition of Christian theology today, in order to verify a quote from McGrath on original guilt, cited as page 400. Without pagination, this edition is USELESS for academic research and writing.

Too much prolegomena
Deeply respectful towards Catholic Theology but dismissive of orthodox evangelicals. Makes innuendos contrary to traditional or orthodox protestant Theology. Way too captivated with human philosophy.

Excellent resource
Excellent resource, comprehensive and up to date, includes various points of view without being prescriptive. And a big plus, it is (relatively) easy to read for a non-native English speaker like me

The Standard Text for Christian Theology
As a Religion, Philosophy and Ethics teacher, this books has a dual purpose; it satisfies my interest in theology, as well as serving as a useful aid in the teaching of topics such as Augustine, Calvin, Pelagius and Arminius. If you’re a prospective undergrad of theology, this book will be a staple of your reading, if you’re an A-Level student, this will give you the content knowledge to stand out from the crowd, and if you’re interested in Christian Theology this is a highly accessible and informative text that will give you strong foundations in the subject.

Yo he estudiado teología por varios años y aún así he aprendido muchas cosas nuevas. Lo recomiendo para todo estudiante serio de teología.
