Mostly phenomenal
I really like this coffee maker. It makes a very tasty cup of coffee whether you set it at regular strength, bold or robust. I replaced a fairly functional 'other' name brand coffee machine with this one, and I'm glad I did. It fits the main requirements that I had:1. The front swing-out coffee filter.2. The separate detachable easy-to-fill water reservoir.3. The fact that I can entirely turn off the warming time after the coffee or set it for a specific programmed amount of time from about 10 minutes to two hours.4. An easy-to-see water filter in the reservoir that advises you that it is no longer filtering properly and should be replaced, after x number of uses.I searched for a pot like this a long time and I'm glad I found it. The manual is decently written and easy to follow. The unit is attractive and looks very nice on my countertop. The coffee pot glass is a decent thickness and it's easy to handle. I like that it's the same width all the way down instead of a gooseneck at the top.Two nice surprises:1. A 2-tablespoon coffee scoop fits nicely into the top of the unit which pleases me because I am forever losing mine on the other unit. For a 12 cup pot you only have to scoop six times instead of 12! (OK so I'm a bit lazy…)2. The entire bottom of the unit is sturdy plastic instead of cheap metal that rusts over time. The minuses:1. For the price, this coffee maker should have come with a permanent mesh filter. It did not even include the paper filters that the manual indicated would be supplied. I've purchased cheap coffee pots that provide the mesh filter. Fortunately I had one here that is cone shaped number four size and it fits fine.2. The water filter for the reservoir is a bit difficult to align snugly onto the unit. I'm a bit put off that they only included one water filter.3. I would have much preferred if the reservoir slid in from the side rather than fitting in from the top to the base. It's heavy when it's filled!3. As I was putting the reservoir base on, the reservoir lid fell into the reservoir. Twice! And knocked the water filter off its space. That irritated the living daylights out of me. The lid should snap in place instead of just sitting on top of the reservoir.4. The swing-out basket in the front on mine does not swing out all the way until I also press on the opposite side of it. No indication that that's how it operates. I should probably ask for a replacement unit but I haven't decided yet.The last thing I was unhappy with (just me; we drink a lot of coffee coffee around here) is that this coffee maker did not come in a 14 cup size. Filling it to the 12 Mark on the reservoir is not making a full 12 cups of coffee; more like 11. but at least it does not overflow like the coffee maker I replaced with this one. There's room to add water over the 12 mark on the reservoir without overflow so I will get used to that. All in all, as I was using it, despite the drawbacks, all I could think to myself is that Hamilton Beach designers put a lot of thought and time into this machine. It was as if I had given them my requirements and they came up with this! I will definitely keep it and I recommend it, but again I may ask for a replacement unit once I write to Hamilton Beach and ask them if this is the way the swing-out basket works, (nothing in the manual indicates that) or if it was just not properly put together.

Excellent I've tried many different coffee pots this one is definitely a good one
Only had it for a day or two now, and makes an excellent tasting cup of coffee. But one of the things I am a little worried about is the hinge on the basket possibly breaking, doesn't seem strong enough but I do not know what type of plastic they used so maybe it is. Hopefully polycarbonate. Update I've had it for 6 days now only use filtered water and they have a filter built in and it's already telling me to clean the coffee pot, must be set to go off automatically . get rid of this feature or give us a way to shut it off! And if you can hinge the lid on the water tank, it will just make it easier to use. Thank you for making a very good coffee pot overall

Useful Information
I ultimately chose this coffee maker because all the other ones with the features that I want had bad reviews, and this one had no reviews at all. Yes, there is low, medium, and high heat levels for the warmer plate, as well as the timer for how long to keep the coffee heated, from zero to four hours. The manual says it resets while brewing, which would make all these features worthless. Good news: it will only reset to the default settings if it loses power. The steam that comes out of the brew basket caused the control buttons to get wet. So I put a small piece of paper towel sticking out of the brew basket, and that solves the problem. I will include a photo. By the time I go to use it again, it's dry and I can get a few uses out of it.There is also steam that comes out the vent holes between the spoon and the lid for the water reservoir, right in front of the thumb grooves. These holes will still be sending up hot steam after the coffee is done brewing. Remove the reservoir lid from the sides to avoid steam burns. The reservoir lid is very clear and I found myself not noticing when it wasn't there. So I put a sticker on it. Now I can tell. The carafe is billed as being "Drip-free". This only works if you pour it very slowly, which may be difficult when the pot is full. If you're not a bodybuilder, you might want to put down a dish drying mat in front of the machine or keep a rag handy to wipe up drips.Yes it is a cone filter, takes #4 filter papers. It's no joke how much better the coffee tastes using a cone filter machine. The manual says to use a drip grind to avoid overflow. I grind my own beans to powder, which is the normal way for a cone filter. So far, I haven't made any more than 10 cups at a time. I've used the "classic" and the "bold" settings, maybe once "robust". I haven't had any overflow yet. Knock on wood. I love my new coffee maker. I work around its quirks, and it brews me delicious coffee, at the temperature I want, with no grinds in my cup.

Wow! Perfect!
UPDATE Nov 26 2023: still an awesome coffee maker, no issues. Just rich hot coffee, and fast! Quick cleanup; carafe does NOT drip when pouring. I don’t think you’ll find a better coffee maker for the price - it’s a hidden gem.ORIGINAL:I’m very surprised by this coffee maker, and in a super good way. Let me outline the key important reasons and features: 1. 1350 watt boiler element…this is so important for proper brewing temperature and speed. The gold-cup SCA benchmark brewer, the Technivorm Moccamaster, has a 1400 watt boiler element.2. Cone filter, #4. This is the preferred filter style of coffee snobs like me lol, and it’s the same filter used in my Technivorm. Flat bottom basket style is ok…but it delivers a different flavor profile…not as rich imho3. Full dispersion brew head, with 100% perfect grounds saturation! Even the Technivorm struggles here…and it’s best to give the grounds a stir about half way through. No such action needed here on this HB Pro!4. Temperature. I took readings and found it hit 195-205f, and it happened very quickly and maintained throughout. This is also Technivorm territory!5. Time. An equally comparable “Technivorm full pot” of 1.25L took 7 minutes and 10 seconds on the HB Pro…where the Technivorm did it in 6 minutes and 15 seconds. I’d say the HB Pro is a smidge slower because it’s 50 watts less powerful. See how important the wattage rating is on coffee maker?6. Adjustable hot plate (H/M/L) for temperature and time to stay on, in 10 min increments up to 2 hours. Important so you don’t scorch the coffee. Glass carafe Technivorm models also have a 2 setting hot plateOther notable bonus features:-removable water tank with handle that has measurements visible on left and right sides, and water filter-2 tablespoon coffee scoop that stores neatly on top-programmable auto-on; a subtle beep sounds as soon as the brew cycle stops-well placed vents, on top just between the tank and coffee scoop-brew basket is spring loaded and swings out; there’s also a nice grab handle on the cone filter holder-brew strength settings from Classic, Bold, Robust (assuming this slows the brew cycle by integrating pauses in the water flow)-cord storage-carafe has a hinged lid and does not drip-quiet brewing, just like the Technivorm…because it’s mostly a continuous boil/flow of water. Very little gurgling. It does it once right at the start when the water first rises to the brew head, and again during the last 20 seconds of the brew cycle. This coffee maker is a huge win! Makes an equal cuppa to my beloved Technivorm, which is all due to the first 5 key points I outlined above. Now, if Hamilton Beach offered this exact machine with a well designed thermal carafe…it would be pure perfection!

Excellent coffee machine but horrible caraffe!
The coffee machine is excellent overall, here are the pros and cons:Pros:Makes good coffeeLooks sleek on the counterRemovable filter basket with handleCone style filterEasily programmableRemovable water tank with filter option (although the filtering is questionable)Brews quickly and hotYou can control the time out time for keeping warm and the temperatureYou have different settings for brewing (1-4 cup, classic, bold, robust)It makes good small batches of coffeeQuietBeeps when done (not too annoying)Has a built in spoon to load the coffee (1 scoop per two cups)It has steam vents that are on the top of the machine, I like this because it let's the steam actually escape in a specific spot but it can damage your cabinets. I taped a square patch of aluminum foil under my cabinet so that the steam wets that and not my cabinet. (see photo)Cons:Slightly taller than expected , it is actually 14.25" tallThe carafe is absolute junk, you have to be extra careful when pouring and you still will likely spill on your counter. You cannot get all the coffee or water out because there is a type of plastic ledge inside the carafe. It feels very cheap, I'm afraid when washing it that I will accidentally drop it in my sink and crack it....I am very happy with the machine so far (about 3 weeks ownership) I will update if anything changes!
