Silence is Golden
I've used WD Black, Gold, and Red Pro for decades with high satisfaction. The 22TB Gold is the best HDD I've ever used. This drive is so quite I cannot believe it. I can hear the rats in the attic but not a single click from this drive. Purchased directly from Amazon and validated fully 5 years plus warranty on this drive. Absolutely would purchase again. Longevity is unknown as I just put it into service. However, I have scores for WD Black in service 8+ years, no defects, no issues, but are noisy. This 22TB Gold is SILENT. Your mileage will vary. The gold is less than 3 feet from my chair, in tower case, with low fan background noise of 24dB, drive cannot be detected even under extremely heavy data loads.

INITIALLY OK, BUT WENT BAD WITHIN 60 DAYS
My 4TB WD hard drive was almost full (I take a lot of photos) and I had already tried a 12 TB Seagate drive that was DOA, so I decided to try a 8TB WD drive since my 4TB drive has been fine for several years. It initially was OK and I was able to copy the 4TB drive to it using a common utility (It's not my first rodeo). However, after less than two months I noticed it was taking a while to open files. I ran the CHKDSK utility and it found some bad sectors. I started using it again but after about a week it started acting flaky again. I removed the drive from my main computer and plugged it into one of my backups and ran CHKDSK again. This time there were multiple pages of errors. When it finished I tried to access the drive and the system told me it wasn't accessible. I ran CHKDSK again and it found MORE ERRORS but I ran into the same issue of it not being accessible, so I ran it again. This time it gave me the errors in the attached picture in an endless loop. I went to try to print it but it was over 300 pages. The good news is that I called Amazon (Since I had heard that dealing with WD is a nightmare) and they gave me a one-time exception refund but with a $48 restocking fee. I very nicely asked if there was a way to not pay that and he then got approval for a credit that could be used for a replacement drive. I am assuming this was a one-time issue so I reordered the same drive. I will update here if it also goes bad!

WD 14TB Gold
I've had the drive for month and gave it a workout when first received. No issues and for a HDD its relative fast as I did get advertised read/write speeds. Not near as noisy as most Enterprise drive are. Remember to register your drive at Western Digital support to get the full 5 year warranty.

Good performance, but louder than Seagate Exos 7E8
I have two Hitachi 2TB hard drives that have been working without problem for about 7 years (7200RPM). One drive has Win 7, Vista and XP on it, and the other drive is for Data (my main Win 10 boot drive is on SSD). But since I sometimes have to use Win 7, and these drives are a bit old, I was looking to replace them with new faster hard drives.I decided to try this Seagate Barracuda 2TB first since it was a low price. I was impressed that it is a single platter with two heads inside and is quiet. Also, when I first did some benchmarking with Crystal it showed over 200MB/s Read and Write. But if I ran it again, the numbers were not consistent and would be as low as 35MB/s. Using HD Tune showed that this drive has major drops in speed across the platter. I cloned my Win 7 over to it, ana it took about 4 minutes to fully boot, no faster than the old Hitachi. The 2 year warranty is also a concern. So I can't really recommend this drive as a OS drive, but would be OK as a backup drive or just a data drive if you don't need fast performance.I have also since then tried this WD Gold 2TB (good performance, but loud disk spinning sound and loud read/write clicks), the Seagate Exos 7E2 and newer Exos 7E8). The WD Gold was the Loudest drive out of the bunch, as I could hear the disk spinning (motor) and loud clicks when read/write. The best drive was the Exos 7E8 at $150. It was actually the quietest drive out of all, and also the fastest with speeds up to 240MBs, also has 5 year warranty that I verified on the Seagate site. When I cloned my Win 7 over to it, the boot time was 1min 45 sec, and remember the Barracuda was 4 minutes. So that right there shows the Exos 7E8 is faster for an OS drive. If the WD Gold drive noise doesn't bother you, then it would be a good drive, but since my PC is in a bedroom, I keep it as quiet as possible.
