Great for beginning reader
Our five-year-old son got this from our cat for his birthday last month, and it's been a great success. At first I was on the fence about purchasing the book because it doesn't contain very many jokes, but as we've been reading it together, I've realized that this really is quite a lot of jokes for a young child to add to his repertoire. We actually use this book to practice reading, which works well for a child interested in jokes because there's a dual reward of 1) getting to the punch-line of the joke in the first place, and 2) learning a new joke to tell others. Furthermore, the jokes, although simple enough, aren't of the stupid/ annoying/ booger genre that might prove popular with some of the cousins. On his last visit to the pediatrician, my son told a total of about six jokes that he had learned from this book. The doctor seemed genuinely impressed by my son's ability to deliver the jokes so expertly, as well as by his understanding of what made them funny, so I'm not sure if this is typical for 5-yr-olds or not.I have to admit that it was nice for my son to finally have some "normal" jokes ready, as one of the recent trips to the doctor involved my son telling his own "planetary" version of the classic banana and orange "knock-knock" joke (you know, the one where the first 3 times going through "knock-knock/ who's there" you answer "banana," and the last time you answer "orange/ orange who?/ orange you glad it's not banana"), which he made up all by himself after some time spent learning about the solar system. It goes, "Knock-knock/ Who's there?/ Uranus./ Uranus who?" You repeat this 3 times, and on the 4th time it goes "Knock-knock/ Who's there?/ Orange./ Orange who?/ Orange you glad it's not Uranus?" You should've seen the look on his doctor's face when he told that joke. It was great.

Tricked my 5yo Daughter into reading this, and no more made up jokes
So I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone. My 5 year old daughter loves to try to tell jokes. Unfortunately she only knew a couple, and would either repeat them over and over, or simply attempt to make up her own. While adorable, I knew she wanted new material. She had also been resistant to using he new reading skills. This book has given her a bunch of good little kid jokes, with only a couple words giving her trouble. She was exstatic when we she read me the last joke, and I pointed out that she'd read the whole book!

Cute.
This is decent. My 4 year old is REALLY into this other knock knock joke book that we got so I figured he'd love this, but the jokes aren't quite as appealing as the knock knock jokes. I'm guessing this will grow on him as he gets a bit older.

Funny and fun!
My 4 year old grandson loves to tell jokes and riddles, so he loved this book. In fact, I got him three books of this type. He can't read yet, but he sure got the hang of it quickly. It was fun sitting with him to read and see his reactions, and then tell the jokes to his folks (sometimes slightly modified.) A great break from all the electronic gadgets that were under the tree.

Perfect first material for a comic
I gave it to a 5 year old for Christmas that is trying to master his gift of telling jokes to people. He loved the new material and between reading some of the words and the pictures he had us all in stitches.

Perfect humor for first grader!
My older grandson, who is a first grader this year, loves this book. Not only is he able to read it himself, but he is just the right age for this kind of humor! He was laughing so hard he got hiccups! There are other books like this one that will probably be under the tree at Christmas! Highly recommended !

It is well written and easy for a young reader to read by themselves
I bought this for my 6 year old granddaughter. It is well written and easy for a young reader to read by themselves. She absolutely loves this book and cannot wait to tell everyone the new jokes she has learned. I would definitely recommend this book for any young reader who is into kncok-knock jokes.

OK
A few of the jokes are great but some require understanding of concepts that young kids don't have yet so they don't get the joke. I ended up having to explain a lot. Also an American book so some meanings don't translate.
