You have to tweak the internal settings...
I got the echorec after researching to find something that had as much interesting sound qualities as my old 70s echoplex, which I foolishly sold in the 80s. From the samples I heard, I really liked the weird, somehow organic modulations on the repeats. My particular unit showed up with the internal modulation pot set to zero, so there was absolutely NO modulation. If I didn't know about the internal pots I would have totally returned it, you could basically get that sound with a 50$ pedal. But I opened it up, found a tiny slot screwdriver, and with the unit on and plugged in, I gently turned the mod pot control on the circuit board til I heard some modulation on the repeats, and found the sweet spot. That modulation then changes characteristics depending how you set the tone control, which is the true magic of this pedal.. with higher treble the repeats get progressively thinner, And below 12:00 they get progressively thicker, but there are also more un-nameable characteristics that happen either way you go, that make this pedal worth the money.. it seems they really pulled off a close approximation of the old Binsons, in that there are so many little nuances in the modulations, that make the tone control priceless. Thank god I knew about the internal mod setting.. (There's also 2 other internal settings btw that are less consequential.) I'm gonna use the heck out if this thing, it's a total keeper.

Sounds great, huge range of sounds
If you are looking at this you already know what the deal is. The original Echorec is famous and this pedal has quite a well-earned reputation. This pedal sounds great and has a huge range of sounds. In particular the combination of the 12 different modes and the tone control open up just so many possibilities. The internal trim pots add even more. This is to say that this pedal requires experimentation and you'll probably find multiple setting that you like for different reasons and that suit different styles. So, if you are into tweakability and experimentation this pedal could be for you. If you want something straight forward and simple, maybe look into something else.

perfect....for somebody
Very interesting pedal, almost tempted to give it 5 stars just for being unique. It replicates the stuttering sound one might get off of a scratched CD. It's not exactly random in its delay pattern, which I think helps. In fact, if there was a knob or a switch to control just how random the pattern is, I think that would be a big help. Then it could be used on a rhythmic guitar track. For now, I think the main audience for this pedal would be those who are enamored with atmospheric guitar sounds.

Be "Patient" with it
This is a really versatile Echo/Delay pedal, you can get really warm pristine repeats with the "Tone" Knob to the right or you can get dark fatter repeats by turning the knob to the left. It has 12 different modes, so you definitely get a variety of different sounds from this pedal; however don't let that turn you away from this pedal, this gives you a lot more time to experiment with it. You can get the tone of David Gilmour, by setting the "Delay" time around 9 o'clock the highest 11 o'clock; remember this is based on the "Binson Echorec" which had a max delay time of 300/ms, this pedal has 1000/ms max delay time. So you can get those Pink Floyd tones you love & other replicate other good bands that utilize delay in their rig as well. This pedal also worked well with my other pedals, and didn't cause any bad feedback when you chain it with other pedals; so this will blend well with any rig. Just keep in mind that you just have to take your time adjusting the right settings for it in order to get the sound you want from it. I also recommend going to "Catalinbread's" website, they have the full manual and instructions on how to use it; just in case if you get lost, or just checkout a demo on "Youtube". An incredible pedal that really provides vintage & modern day echoes, with a wide range of sounds; just take your time and you'll find the right settings that make you'll play for hours.

Absolutely LOVE this pedal!
I am a BIG fan of early Pink Floyd (amongst other late 60's/early 70's bands). There are many echo pedals out there - but you HAVE to try this one before you pull the trigger on one. This thing is AWESOME!! Watch the Catalinbread you tube video of this thing before you buy any echo pedal - you will NOT be disappointed in what it can do! Well made, and has a built in "gain" under the screw in panel at the bottom that you can adjust (trem pot). I was just about to pull the trigger on a Gurus Echosex2 pedal - this one is less expensive and does EXACTLY what I wanted it to do. It's the first pedal that begged me to be more creative - and so far - it has worked!

No notches make for guessing
It’s not a very bad sounding delay I would say that the preamp section may be a little bit on the brighter side making this pedal sound still digital I’m not a fan of internal trim pots. I returned it and continued with my search. Mix and tone we are very welcome features tap tempo is what it’s really missing

Sounded Good - But couldn't outshine my D-Seed.
I have had many delays. Some were OK and some just handy little mini's that were nice to have available. If this one was head and shoulders above my others It would be on my board. It couldn't outshine my Joyo D Seed for sound quality and versatility at twice the cost.

tone for days
this pedal is awesome, very excited about the sounds im getting. i now use this at the beginning of my signal chain(for now) because the the tube preamp simulation they developed is pretty awesome, its really touch sensitive and imo gives the sound a slight amount of tube overdrive, just a little bit which i personally love. you can switch the preamp off inside the pedal if you dont want it on all the time and only when the pedal is on. nails early gilmour tones without the expense or wieght of a real binson echo rec. this pedal doesnt sound as incredible as the the original(of course because its not analog) but this pedal is an incredibly faithful recreation of a unique effect and the pedal is super versitile if you play with it! highly recommended
