Fascinating look into a bizarre and terrible disease.
First, some background:I first heard about Morgellons in grad school, probably around 2007-2008. It was either a magazine article or a TV bit, I don't even remember. I do remember feeling skeptical of the patients' stories, but also thinking they could not possibly have made up the SAME bizarre constellation of symptoms they all experienced. So I approched this book with very little actual knowledge about the disease itself. On to the actual review:-Despite its scientific-sounding (and super-long) title, the book is easy to read, and a fairly quick read. It reminds me a little of a "whodunit" novel--trying to find the cause of the mysterious lesions and filaments-This book also presents a wealth of information about this misunderstood illness, provides a well-researched history of the disease, and debunks myths and conspiracy theories about the disease. I don't have a medical background, but I do have a graduate degree involving research, and the information provided here seems well-documented and sound.-The author includes fascinating case studies of her own patients, complete with (somewhat graphic) photos. I read the digital edition and the photos are in color, apparently in the print edition, the images are black and white, but you can see them in color on the author's website. It would probably be more convenient to have color photos, but I imagine the cost of the book would go up exponentially.-Probably most helpful for patients and practitioners is the section recommending specific treatments (both over-the-counter and prescription) for the symptoms and for the illness itself. About 10% of patients recover fully, Dr. Savely explains, but around 90% show at least some improvement in symptoms.I imagine in twenty, fifty, or a hundred years from now, Dr. Savely's research will be lauded as groundbreaking. Right now, there are plenty of skeptics regarding this disease. As with many new diseases, since we don't know the cause, we like to attribute the symptoms to an effect of the psyche; cancer was once thought to be a result of repressed emotions, and before that "Consumption" was thought to be caused by an especially overexcitable or creative nature. I imagine that, with advances in technology and research, Morgellons will also eventually be proven to be a "real" disease, and perhaps we will even have a cure for it. Until that time, this book provides an in-depth look at a horrific and (in my opinion) largely misunderstood physiological illness. Great book.

Dr Savely Helped SAVE Me
Dr Savely is nothing short of an angel. If you even THINK you might have Morgellons, order this book NOW. I have suffered from Morgellons and other Chronic Lyme related issues for so many years. I have tried EVERYTHING from horse dewormer to drinking bleach to rid myself of the mysterious and life CONSUMING disease that Morgellons is. I have begged to die with the emotional, physical and neurological symptoms presented with this disease. Not to mention the horrific ways I’ve been treated by others and even worse, some of the ways have treated myself, and felt so lost and hopeless with the “traditional” CDC had to offer me. Not only was it wrong, many times I believe the treatment I was given made things worse. This book can help quell crazy internet myths, give some validation to those silently suffering and also act as THE guidebook to start your journey to getting better. Dr. Savely has a very open mind to what simply works not sticking to any “style” of healing. Antibiotics can co-exist with herbs and meditation. She is truly a WHOLISTIC Healer & Teacher.I didn’t even notIce until I received the book but ALL THE PROFITS from you purchasing this book go to a Mrgellons research center in Austin, TX. Dr. Savely herself doesn’t even suffer from Morgellons, she just felt a tenderness for those that were being denied the correct treatment due to lack of knowledge and refusal to believe in something “new” in our traditional medical system. She has been and IS a voice for us in a world where reality is being dubbed dilusional. That refusal of recognition from those we are told to trust is almost worse than the physical pain of Morgellons and other Lyme co-infections.All my Gratitude to Dr Savely and to her dedicated work. I’m sure it has been hard, overwhelming, very lonely and full of uphill battles but because of her pure LOVE and CARE for fellow humanity I know I am on my way to getting better after so so many years of pain. More than any pill, prescription, diagnosis or answer, I have been SEEN and give HOPE....sometimes that’s the Miracle through the Medicine. 🙏

It’s a real, biological disease. READ!!!
For anyone with Morgellons (and yes, it’s a real biological disease) this book is a good mirror of your issues - to counter any one thinking you’re nuts. This doctor has treated Morgellons patients for over 20 years. My 38 yr old son has Morgellons (2.5 Yrs now), so I’ve studied what I can find, and it’s a relief to know there are bonafide doctors (though few) who have and are working with Morgellons sufferers, and have some advice. My son has implemented some remedies and after only a few weeks of twice a day baths with salt, or chlorine, or apple cider vinegar, as well as herbs, and “Chinese Pearls” (a pill to clear brain fog) he is 97% healed.A wonderful woman naturopathic doctor in Portland, Oregon is treating patients online during covid, and she has helped him the most (not same doctor as in this book). It is a great relief to know, as the (woman) doctor and this book she wrote attest to, that professional medicine is recognizing a Morgellons sufferer’s plight.
