The best in this genre! Deck building and area control!
My wife and I love deck building games. We got hooked on "Dominion" back in the day. I loved "Risk" as a kid. "Trains" was the closest I've seen to this combination of both deck building and board control, but my wife didn't care for it. She felt something was off with the game mechanics of "Trains".Not so with "Tyrants of the Underdark"! The gameplay is fluid, and easy to understand. The turns are fast, and the game is exciting. For the last year, every morning over coffee, we'd been playing a 3-game series of "Race For The Galaxy" because we love that deck builder so much. But we learned this game in our inaugural playthrough last week, and now we're hooked. Each morning for the last seven days, we've played a complete game of "Tyrants of the Underdark" in about an hour each time, and we love it!This is a second printing of the game, and with it, the publishers have made the game less expensive to own, fit in a smaller box, and included all of the game's separate expansions within this one set!The supply deck is made by combining your choice of 2 out of 6 sets of differently themed half-decks, giving players 30 possible different combinations for a game.If you crave the deluxe experience you could try to track down a copy of the original printing which came with plastic figures for all of the spies and troops, and buy the expansion decks separately, but I feel it unnecessary with this set.The only downside is this set is all cardboard punch out tokens, and the playing cards feel a bit on the cheap side. I imagine if they ever got wet they would be instantly ruined. But in exchange you get a fantastic compete and deep game that is easy to play. You can complete the game with great satisfaction in about an hour with 2 people. I'm sure it's even more fun with 3 or 4. We hope to find out soon with our gaming friends.Perhaps if this game becomes popular enough, they might consider a third printing with better quality linen cards. The punch out tokens are plenty thick and work just fine.I wholeheartedly recommend this game to any nerd board gaming enthusiast. It is just so much fun.

One of our favorite games!
So much fun and so many ways to achieve victory. Can be a quick game or a long game. The multiple decks that come with the game (and available as add-ons) make a little different each time. I get the feeling this game was very well play tested. The few times we've come across a rules question in game, it's addressed in the rule book clearly and concisely. No going online needed.

How did this gem get slept on?!?
If you like deckbuilders but the "multiplayer solitaire" aspect bothers you, this could be the game for you. The solid deckbuilder is used to power an area of control game. There are many strategies to winning. It features a number of "half-decks" that are combined to create a relatively new mix of cards available each game. I've found this game to be really outstanding, and has been a hit at every table I've played it at.

Be the ruler of the Underdark.
At first time, little confused to learn about the rules. But once familiar with some terms of keywords, I found the rule isn't complex.Main goal of this game is to control the sites of the Underdark in many ways. (I think it's not necessary being a tyrant...)Through taking various actions, you'll get VPs by your minions, sites, enemy trophies.Game's pace is pretty fast, so it's very funny.

An amazing deck builder meets Risk
A friend of mine got this game a long time ago, and I was skeptical. Normally games based on an existing intellectual property suck, usually they aren't very fun to play. This game completely surprised me, there are multiple ways to win and a lot of variety with the different decks you can play with. No game goes quite the same. After many years of playing it, I moved away and needed to get a copy of my own. Only giving this four stars and not five because with this reprinting they replaced the miniature figures with cardboard tokens.Going to 3d print my own minis to replace them so I can play this game the way Lolth intended. Would highly recommend to any Drittz fan, or fan of the forgotten realms.

Fun and worth the price
My friends and I have now played two complete games of this with four players, so far we are all in agreement that this is even better than the Castle Ravenloft D&D board game. The gameplay is a combination of deck building with Risk-like site management and an overall point system to determine the winner. The premise is: you take control of a drow household and use your power to place your troops or assasinate your enemy's troops and use influence to recruit new minions (drawn as cards). Different decks have different minions with different abilities and after you get the hang of things it becomes much more strategic in how you build your deck and what actions you take. The only downsides worth mentioning are that it is only playable with up to four people and some of the rules are a bit ambiguous, but anyone with board game/RPG experience should be able to adjust accordingly without much difficulty. Then the card stock and rule book are a little on the cheap/flimsy side, but would only become an issue after heavy use.All-in-all, the games detractors aren't worth dropping the rating a star, it's lots of fun.
