Love this book, content is spot on for the young beginner and projects are quick, easy and provide great confidence!
Great book to teach young kids about sewing. I just received this and walked through the steps with my 6 year old girl and 8 year old boy. Both were so excited about learning the parts of the machine and then doing the exercises of sewing paper to practice straight lines, foot pedal speed, turning corners, etc. I made copies on my printer and each had their own practice sheets and took turns. Really a fun, unique way to introduce this old skill to young kids. Also love the homemade crafts included for the various holidays throughout the year. They seem really cute and crafty and we can actually gift them (home sewn Christmas Tags/Ornaments on brown paper, So Cute!!) We can't wait to begin sewing after school. Easy way to start a project they can see results quickly without losing interest and gain satisfaction and confidence. Highly recommend this as your first starting book for beginners. Content is spot on. I ordered several different books as I was unsure how basic to begin but glad we started with this one. Thanks to the author, Lynda Milligan!!

Fabulous for the beginner
I bought this for my 7 year old granddaughter to go with her new sewing machine for Christmas. In looking through it I am so very please. I have been sewing for 30+ years and I am very impressed with the safety details and exercises not only for using a sewing machine but for using an iron and cutting out patterns. There are lots of practice exercises so the child can become familiar with using the machine before she ever begins working on fabric. I am sure it is too much of a beginner book for someone with sewing experience but it is perfect for the child who has never sewn and the mother who has little or no experience with a sewing machine. My granddaughter and her mother are going to love this book.

Good for Practicing...
From the "Look Inside" feature, I had a pretty good idea of what this book would be about. Even after getting it, I'm a little disappointed that there aren't more projects involving fabric and actually sewing something functional. I do like the practice pages that you can copy and have a child practice stitching straight lines, curved lines and turning corners. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that they have them follow the line with the needle rather than paying attention to the seam allowance. The workbook portion of the book is really helpful and I think it will do a good job teaching a young {and excited} child about a sewing machine and make it a fun and enjoyable experience as well.

Great beginner book
Book covers basics of the generic machine. Patterns are included as pages in the book so you'll need to trace or make copies. Is written for 7- 17 year olds, but most 7-9 year olds will definitely need adult assistance. Projects are a bit elementary in my opinion for 15-17 year olds but would still make great beginning projects. Book has pages of puzzles throughout. Pages have color pictures and they are clearly labeled and easily understood. Of course I have been sewing for 50 years so I may have a bit of an edge over someone just learning to sew. Bought this for my grand daughter, who I think will enjoy it.

Misleading and way too expensive for not getting what was promised.
Well product is not spiral bound at all I paid way more for spiral bound. 8 for a book , 60 dollars for a spiral bound book. Your description is very misleading. At least the content is good. Just really bad way to get money.

Great little book for starter ideas for the young beginning seamstress
I got sewing machines for each of my three young granddaughters for Christmas this year. I am looking forward to teaching them the basics of sewing and getting together regularly for sew days with them. This book was just what I was looking for with some ideas for getting them started and some fun little projects to encourage their interest. I might not want the little animal projects, etc., for myself, but I know they will have fun making them and will be so proud knowing they have made them. Can't wait to get started. I am very happy I bought this book as a starter to our little sew-together times.

WOMDERFUL Book!
I love the fact that the kids start off using only line paper and start to graduate from there. This was a very well thought out book and I am so very please to start using it with my eight year old daughter! I also love how it steps you throug the different things you will encounter when sewing and about taking pride in your work!Thank you for making such a wonderful book so I too may pass on some WONDERFUL memories to my daughter. I know I will enjoy teaching my daughter to sew (with a little help;) just as my mother did me:)Thank you!!!!!!!

My impression is that the book is excellent for young children
Have just received and skimmed through the book, and will give it to 2 granddaughters as soon as I see them again. My impression is that the book is excellent for young children, 8 through 11 years, who have not yet begun to sew or formulated any idea of what they can make when they do start to sew. Having given them Hello Kitty sewing machines for Christmas, I am hoping they will start to use the machines once they see what fun things they can do with them, and this book will help I am sure. (I have ordered others, but no others have arrived yet.)
