Cheaper stuff works better
I thought I would buy some decent solder for a project. This is not worth buying, the cheaper silver line solder works better

Safer to use but some precautions may be necessary
Weller is arguably the best-known brand-name in soldering equipment; this "Weller WSW SCN M1 (T0051401399) Lead Free Solder Wire, Ø 0.8mm, Alloy Sn99.3Cu0.6Ni0.05, Flux Content 3.5%, 100g, Silver" is intended mostly for use in electrical and electronic applications and the soldering of metals such as copper (including silver-plated products), brass. This is 0.8mm in diameter and ideal for use with larger components and connections; 0.3 mm is preferred for use smaller and more delicate connections. This solder is 99.3% tin with small amounts of copper and nickel included. Weller claim that the metals used are new and first melt - not recycled materials which can sometimes be impure and contaminated, possibly with lead, antimony and others equally hazardous to health. There is a single core of 'low-splash' flux that helps it flow, 'wetting' the soldering tip and the objects being joined for a more secure result. Older fluxes tended to splash and splutter when melting, sometimes causing small burns to the skin or clothing.Solder is usually sold by weight rather than length. This spool will allow a significant number of joins. Heavy users, including those involved in product development and prototyping, repair work etc, may be better served with a 500g spool. Although inherently safer to use than lead solders, some precautions may be required in order not to inhale its fumes. This has a higher melting point than older lead-based solders and about 10-15-deg C higher than other Weller solders, circa 230-deg C although that detail is not included on the labelling. Most modern soldering irons and guns, and presumably all of Wellers' models and those that offer variable temperatures, should be able to use it to advantage; you may need to check your own equipment for compatibility.

Brilliant solder wire
First, I lead-free solder wire I've used and it's very good indeed. Big spool size. Accuracy is spot on (at least it is if you can handle a soldering iron). Little wastage. Those of you who do soldering, already know the difference between a really nice solder and an okay solder. This is definitely great quality and safe for homes with children as it is lead-free and comes with plenty so no worries if it's your hobby.I really enjoyed using this solder as it melts easily and flows well in the connections. It's very good for bigger SMD components as well. I am sure I will get thinner wire next time tho as I tend to work on fine electronics.

Flows like Marmite. Needs a lot or flux to actually flow.
Cheap no name stuff from eBay flows and melts better than this. Don't waste your money.

Good even flow, firm joints
Over to Mr Frog who has used this recently for a rather fiddly job in his shed:Good quality which is what you would expect from this well known brand. It melts and flows nicely, and forms good firm joints. This lead-free solder is mainly tin, with very small amounts of nickel and copper included. The single core of flux – low melt – allows the smooth flow without sputter and splutter, a common occurrence with older fluxes.Perfect for the small jobs I have in mind. I can't remember the price of this when I ordered it so can't comment on value for money. I seem to remember Mr Frog saying it was more expensive than they one he usually buys, but that doesn't really help does it.
