Great enhancement to the alice pack.
This is an awesome product for what it does to the alice pack. I drilled a couple of holes through the shelf and frame, secured it with some small gauge screws. It's not easy to sling things underneath the shelf, and you can fit a tarp or something else that can be packed flat, between the shelf and the pack.Great product. For civilian use the tabs that have been bent downwards (I guess to keep radios/ammo boxes secure) are in the way, and shafe against equipment carried underneath the shelf. They really need to be bant flat, horizontal with the rest of the shelf, and deburred.

Wish I would have bought this before I bought a complete cargo frame system.
Had to bend the unit wrap around fastening edge "inward" a little to make it retain to my Alice frame properly.... Works like a charm now. I carry a five gallon bucket full of my gear on this shelf. Gives me a place to sit at camp, water carry etc..... plus the dump out and load up is a snap. I fasten the bucket to the frame with a medium size bungee cords for a very nice finished look.Go ahead.... Complete your Alice system. Get this shelf.

A Decent Product
I purchased this shelf, along with some bungee cords, in order to expand the capabilities of my ALICE frame. The shelf appears to be made of aluminum alloy with an anodized finish and is light weight and surprisingly sturdy. The shelf is attached by sliding it over the bottom cross member of the ALICE frame and offer's a low enough profile so that it can ride on the frame while using a medium ruck without interference (not certain about using a large ruck). However, I found that the shelf's friction fit loosened with usage and it began to work itself off the frame. So I permanently attached the shelf by drilling two holes through it and the frame cross member, then bolted it down.Overall, its a great addition that makes any ALICE ruck frame more versatile, more flexible and more usable..

Pretty heavy gage metal
Not GI , but close to one of the several GI versions made since about 1973. Black coated aluminum. Pretty heavy gage metal, yet light. This style attaches by hanging onto one of the 2 aluminum straps on the ALICE. It allows the GI to carry radio gear , cased gun ammo etc.this allows a ALICE to function as more of a packboard. You could attach a trapper basket or any othe large bulky items that simply wouldn't fit into a pack itself.

Overpriced but it works as advertised
I purchased this shelf for my pack, chiefly to be used for primitive camping/hunting/backpacking. I did notice it made my pack a lot more stable when used in conjunction with the bag, and It's been useful to lash boxes and lumber for fires onto. Even though gravity/friction keeps the shelf on ok, I'd suggest tie-strapping it onto the frame once you've attached it. Otherwise, if you set your pack down it can be inclined to pop off, defeating the purpose of the shelf....Overall it was an ok buy, though the price is hyper-inflated and I doubt it's manufactured in the US (Generally I'm inclined to say "who cares if it works?" But I know the US stuff generally has higher manufacturing standards and tends to hold up better. DON'T buy a knock off Chinese ALICE frame, they're garbage, find a good used mil-surp one for 40-60$. Also I'd recommend replacing the straps and kidney pad with MOLLE straps, if you're carrying a lot of weight 30-60lbs. I got bruises on my sides from the original pads.).I was forced into getting this shelf as a primitive camping deadline was closing in and my mil-surplus store didn't have it, but you can usually find them in the $10 range on Ebay. I'd suggest going that route if your inclined/can. Hope this helps!

Alice pack frame shelf
Arrived promptly and has a nice parkerized type of finish. Easily fits onto the pack frame but has about 1/2 inch or so of play from side to side. Seems well made with rounded edges. First impression is that it will do what it is designed to do.

Appears to be Chinese junk
Flimsy, flexy fitment. Shelf's thin metal thickness only 0.081" compared to frame's web thickness of 0.128". Loose, sloppy fit. Main bend greater than 90 degrees, giving a downward slope. Shelf projects only 3". Anodizing, perforations okay. Four stamped reinforcing gussets along the main bend are too small, sharp, and shallow to lend any strength. Useless accessory. Returned it for a refund. If you read the reviews and saw mine before you bought it, congratulations! If you didn't, maybe you learned a lesson.

Just What My Alice Pack Needed
Sturdy and well made. I put a couple of bolts through my pack frame to firmly secure it and it works like a champ. It's a great addition to an Alice pack.
