Lots of excuses blamed on tape condition and lots of mono versions used because of the "tapes could not be found" excuse. It has only been recently that you could get a real Stereo version of "I Got You Babe" on compact disc. Before that you had to track down a German-only CD pressing of a 1975 compilation album: "The Beat Goes On". When One Way Records released the soundtrack to "Good Times" on compact disc, they had a version of "It's the Little Things" where the tape sounds like it fell right off of the head! Again, another tape condition excuse.Well there are no more excuses thanks to Friday Music. Their excellent reissue of the 1967 Sonny and Cher's greatest hits album sounds great. This record never went out of print until compact discs took over. Each subsequent pressing sounded worse and worse: Unbelievable treatment for a group that made ATCO records millions of dollars. All of that is now fixed. The record sounds amazingly clean with lots of bass. Yes, "The Beat Goes On" and "I Got You Babe" are in Stereo and sound excellent. The biggest surprise to me was how clean the intro to "Little Man" sounds. The thump of the hollow box and tamborines just jump out of your speakers.Even the notoriously noisy "It's The Little Things" gets a nice upgrade. They also fixed the bad tape splce where Cher comes in with "You're not the smartest man..." No more previews of the next groove too which happened a lot on their records.Ten of the twelve songs were written by Sonny Bono. Forget all the revisionist history you have heard about Sonny and Cher and listen to these great teen anthems with fresh ears. I got this for him and EVERYTIME I walk near his office this Vinyl is playing. He couldn't be happier. If he's happy so am I.
