Exploring Jazz Violin

Best jazz violin instruction book & CD
Very detailed, easy to understand book. For video lessons tied to this book go to Music Guru.com under jazz violin instructor instructor Chris Haigh. This is superior to all Grappelli style books I have tried.Just get it.

Exceeded my expectations
I have played guitar professionally for years and wanted to lesrn jazz fiddle. I was making some progress but this book along with several jam sessions have been very helpful. The written solos help along with the cd. I carefully read other articles before selecting. I plan to go through the book again for review. You obviously need to play and have some experience for tis to help. Wish I would have had something like this for guitar .

Very useful and comprehensive method
Excellent, comprehensive exploration of jazz method for violin. Presumes some knowledge of classical technique and multiple playing positions.

Excellent resource
This book is a wonderful way to introduce improvization to students. It assumes a fair degree of proficiency on the violin (advancing student) but takes the student step by step through skills needed to develop an individual improv style. A CD is included which helps boost a student's confidence playing.

It's a great book that explores the subject and lays down the info nicely. However what it lacks is a coverage of some basic popular jazz standards, which I see as very compelling. All the examples in the book are self-composed.

Great book well produced.
The songs he wrote for this book are unusual in that they are pretty good! You will be able to develop them and work on them such that you'll have some good tunes to play. Book well laid out. Quality paper and well produced. CD has decent backing tracks for the songs.A very useful resource if you want to learn jazz violin.

How I'm Learning to 'Swing' Like the Masters!
As a life-long semi-pro classical violinist, I find this book invaluable. Chris Haigh has done a masterful job of welcoming newcomers to the jazz world from the classical, without making the transition intimidating, or implying there's some unbridgeable gap full of mystique that only non-classical players can 'get'. And he does it all in an easy-going, simple way without talking down, inviting you to all the fun and challenge with easy, understandable steps which lure you ever on. And, before you know it -- as long as you practise, of course! -- you, too, are swinging. When I decided to branch out into more mainstream music as a way of falling in love with music all over again, I had a horror of sounding stiff and overly 'correct'; I wanted to find a way to sashay in that lovely, easy, relaxed way that, say, Grappelli had, or to sound excitingly edgy along the lines of Jean-Luc Ponti. Well, this book is helping me to achieve much of that. So, bravo, Chris Haigh, and many thanks! - from Carol, on Vancouver Island, B.C.

Completo
