Q: Is it free fall or power down.

This unit has a spring loaded micro-switch to sense line tension. To launch, you power out and when the anchor hits bottom (line slacks) the switch opens the control signal to prevent backlash like you get on an improperly set bait-caster. I have a 22' Grady Offshore and getting to the bow, especially in a hurry, isn't easy. So I series wired the circuit breaker and parallel wired the in/out switch to the control panel, thus making life much easier and safer. To pay out, let the boat drift, or power, aft and feed out with the control switch. I originally installed an 11# Horizon Claw, but I think a 16# would be better. It took a bit of effort to install, but I am well satisfied with he results.
