Looks the same but isn't
This Allimity replacement remote only costs about $10 less than a genuine Shield replacement remote and although the product pictures make the two look exactly the same that isn't the case. This replacement is larger which Allimity mentions on their product page but this replacement remote doesn't have backlit buttons which they don't mention, which makes it more difficult to use in a dark room. The instruction page that comes enclosed with the remote refers multiple times to the buttons lighting up so I thought at first that my batteries were bad and tried three different sets. Allimity apparently copied the instruction page from the official remote word for word without removing the references to the buttons lighting up.If you don't care all that much about the original backlit feature this replacement does have some good points. The buttons here are rubber instead of plastic which is more tactile. Some will also like the fact that this remote is larger and might find it a little easier to use. And then there's the battery compartment...I have two of the official Shield Remotes and purchased this to replace the backup one I use for guests. Shield apparently released versions of their remote with two slightly different battery compartment door designs and I don't like either version. One version is very solid and requires a lot of pressure to open which wasn't a problem initially. But after using the remote daily for more than a year the batteries finally needed to be changed and I found it nearly impossible to open the door and replace the batteries. I've owned dozens and dozens of remotes over the years and also changed the non-removable batteries in Motorola and Google Pixel smartphones and I couldn't ultimately open the battery compartment without seriously damaging my remote because it was stuck to the back like it was glued down and the plastic wasn't solid enough to withstand the amount of pressure required to finally get it off. That remote still works fine but cosmetically it looks like hell because pieces of plastic are now missing from around the edges of the battery compartment door. Then there's my other Shield Remote. The back comes off easily but that remote doesn't feel nearly as solid because the battery compartment door always seems a little bit loose when handling the remote. Both designs are bad and the one thing about the official Shield Remote that I really hate. The battery compartment here fits tight so the remote feels solid but it also looks like removing the back to replace the batteries will be a lot easier when that time eventually comes.Pairing this remote is easy enough although it didn't pair automatically for me--I needed to go into the Shield menu and manually pair it and since nothing lights up I didn't think pairing was working initially. Shield immediately provided a firmware update so this replacement remote uses the same firmware as the official remote and shows up in the menu as an official Shield remote. So this replacement remote has no backlit buttons which is the most important feature of the original (for me), is only $10 cheaper than the official remote which isn't really all that much of savings, is larger, less sleek, and feels more cheaply made (which it obviously is). But the larger size and rubber buttons will appeal to some people and changing the batteries will likely be easier with this replacement than on the original (unless you have one of those Shield remotes where the battery compartment door always feels a little bit loose). If you love the official Shield remote you will more likely than not be disappointed with this cheap replacement but if you just want to spend $20 on a remote that performs the same functions and has the same layout as the original then this replacement from Allimity might be ideal.

Better than the original
This remote works perfectly on the nvidia shield 2017 model. It is superior to the original remote that came with the device. Includes all necessary buttons that you will need. You can also customize the remote buttons with the aid of an app from the App Store. This remote works right out of the box because it is designed specifically for the shield. No Bluetooth pairing is necessary. The only thing I advise is to get within a foot of the shield when first and tap the indicated buttons in the instructions to pair it up.

Great remote 👌
This is an amazing replacement remote.. it is super easy to set up just put it right next to shield and its ready to go.. the connection is strong and the design in my opinion is better than the original shield remote. Look I'm happy so you should take a chance if your needing a remote my old one broke completely into pieces so I had to get another well it saved the day so yay..

It works
Just works automatically once paired with your Nvidia shield through Bluetooth. Doesn't seem like there will be anything wrong with it
